Mischief Monday – No On, No Off

Mom, JJ and I frequently watch TV in Mom’s bed.  She has this thingie called a DVR which allows us to watch our favorite shows like The Dog Whisperer, Dogs 101, Tanked, as well as lots of Miami Heat games.  (If you’ve read our blog for awhile, you know Mom LOVES basketball.)  She says my handsome black fur is perfect for the Heat’s colors (red/black with a little white, orange and yellow thrown in.)  Oops, I digressed again.

Anyway, last week, when Mom felt ill, she recorded the Heat/Pacer game 6, thinking she would catch up when she felt better.  My human sister, Rachel, kept Mom company until she wanted to go to sleep.  Mom thought she would watch the game to distract her from her tummy discomfort.  She picked up the remote control and… nothing…  She pushed two buttons in sequence, just in case our paws had confused the remote, which happens on occasion.  Nothing… She called Rachel in to turn on the set manually, determined the tv made her feel worse, called Rachel in again to turn it off and decided to deal with the remote later.

The next afternoon, she tried again…nothing.  Once the tv went on manually, everything worked except ON/OFF and VOLUME.  Now here in the tropics, when the air conditioner goes on, you always need to increase the volume and vice versa when the cycle ends.  Also, those tricky TV people make the commercials louder than the programs.

Mom tried switching the batteries, switching the remote from the family room… nothing…

Mom’s TV will celebrate its 20th birthday later this year, so, she appreciates the service it provides.  For now, we think the mischief belongs to the remote!!!

Another great, except for No ON/OFF, day.

  3. Oh no! Remote mischief! It’s not right when the remote isn’t working especially when you are sick in bed!

  6. Hmmm. I have found that remotes stop working really quickly in the tropics. I’m not sure if it’s because of the heat or the humidity. I’ve started storing mine in a tub with dehumidifying crystals, which mean it works when I first take it out of the tub but after about 30 mins half the buttons stop working again. I’ve noticed that over the last few days it has started working again – that has coincided with a drop in temperature and a dramatic drop in humidity… maybe that’s what’s wrong with yours too??

      Oh gosh your human is both smart and observant. Since we must run our a/c most of the time, the humidity in the house isn’t too bad… however, that’s a good one… we’ll stay mindful of that.

      Oh NO… please do not even say the word retirement… we had a flood in 1/2 the house last fall, replaced 2 a/c units in 2 years, a garage motor, a front door, parts of the roof, etc… we need that ‘ol tv to Last like the energizer bunny!!!

      Well Congrats for last year’s championship, it was well deserved, even though it was tough on us down in the tropics… Mom likes Nowitzki, too! See, now are Moms have even more in common! 🙂

        To be honest, the love I have for Nowitzki is the reason I support Mavericks. If Nowitzki left than I will find new team to follow 😉

        Well, Mr. Nowitzski is lucky to have you as such a loyal fan… Mom usually stays true to her area team… she grew up with the NY Knicks and will still root for them until they play the HEAT. Since she’s been a Heat Fan since the inception of the team, she’s experienced the lows and now highs of their team rosters! She also enjoys UMiami basketball. She did not grow up with college hoops, however, Grandpa has great seats and shares some games with her each season!

        For team…I am a loyal fan of Chicago Bulls because Bulls and Jordan were the ones who fmade me a fan on NBA. No matter who is in it I am always rooting for them (except when they played with Mavericks…I rooted for both of them 😉 )

        You and your mommy are lucky because you can see the game Live…all I can do here is watching it through the tube. Hoping that one day, any team will come here.

        Well, Mom was a HUGE Jordan fan, too… Guess what? She has a signed ball from the last year they won the championship! Mom went to Knick games since she was 4 with Grandpa, so, she saw them win in ’69 and ’73 with Mr. Phil Jackson, Mr. Jordan’s coach!!! (We think you are MUCH younger!!!)

        Not sure where you live, so, sorry she cannot see live games… here, tickets are now so expensive, Mom had to give up her season tix with Grandpa. 😦

    Sounds like the TV remote really does know how to be a Mischief Master – shame it did it when your Mum wasn’t feeling too well…..

    Maybe you can get some tips from it for some new Mischief you can do to entertain your Mum when she’s feeling better? 🙂

      You read Mom’s mind… don’t forget the cable thingie and the a/c! Unfortunately, we already have our mischief lined up for next week! (at least it’s not house related this time…)

      Thanks dude, she’s mostly fine, little tummy stuff here and there. 😦

      Yay, another HEAT fan! Mom taped the game and watched some other stuff because she got a little nervous! She just googled the box score and will go watch sports center while we eat breakfast!!! She’s a funny one.

  17. Oopsie! Remote in Mischief! i hope it’s working fine now! If not Poppy will stomp the yard and march on to the remote service center (if there even is a remote service center) to demand some explanation! Other than that, Happy Monday Brother Jetty and Jetty Mommy!
