Scientific Mischief

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Sorry we’re a late posting today, we had an extended morning snooze.  I’m still whimpering a bit over my tail situation and kerplopping a lot during our constitutionals.

annual bird countMom mentioned that she listened to NPR on Friday afternoon while waiting on line at the bank to make her biscuit money deposit.  Mr. Ira discussed the Annual Bird Count.

Little Miss Bird Dog and I discussed the issue overnight and on Saturday morning, we decided we might like to participate.  Remember my Avian Avalanche post?  We certainly have many varieties to tabulate.  And… as Jet – Scooby Doo Academy Ornithologist (VBP – vocab builder project) in Training, this would be a perfect independent project.

JJ and I sat right on the edge of the garage floor/driveway as I sniffed the unusually cold air, around 48 degrees.  I think my Cone of Courage elevated my upwind sniffing abilities.

human tangled in dog leashDuring this air sniffing procedure, I saw a big black bird with a large wingspan circling the sky on the wind currents.  We’re not sure what species, however, his movements excited Little Miss Bird Dog and I.  We contemplated communications; however, Mom anticipated our idea and gave us each a quick tug, so we did not wake the neighbors.

We did do the boa leash maneuver around Mom, giving us time to count a flock of passing egrets on our toes.  The squawky parrots cruised by next, in a 5-3-5 flight pattern.  JJ and I ran out of toes and decided to use fur strands to count.

8Of course, as if telepathic, arrogant ol’ Winchester paraded himself onto our path.  How could we help but do our job?  We barked our heads off!  Mischief you say?  Just because it was a holiday weekend and 6:30 a.m.?  Pshaw… it was all in the name of science!

Another great ornithological contributory day!

Wordless Wednesday: Mom FINALLY meets Maggie

Hey It’s Jet Here.

After several years of practicing advanced patience, Mom finally met Mr. David’s King Charles Cavalier, Maggie.  Yes, Maggie:

  • adorned (VBP – vocab builder project) the screen saver on Mr. David’s computer,
  • won various contests in Mr. David’s county,
  • and provided Mr. David with wonderful stories to share.

Yet, somehow, years passed and Mom never had the pleasure of giving Maggie her proper due. Until… a week and a half ago…

Looks like a painting rather than a photo, right?

Another great Maggie day.

Our First Follow Up Friday…

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, created this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea.

Mom, Rachel, Puffy, JJ and I want to thank so many of our blog pals, friends and neighbors for their thoughtful words, texts and calls of love and support yesterday.   Rachel woke Mom up around 3:00 this morning, when she felt a wave of sadness.  JJ, ever the happy soul, encouraged lots of belly rubs while Mom and Rachel reminisced about Fluffy, Koko, Mugs, as well as Puffy, JJ and me.  Amongst the tears and tissues, giggles and laughter reached me as I listened cuddled up in the corner of Mom’s closet.

When speaking with Miss Linda of Savannah’s Paw Tracks and Miss Wendy, our Golden Rescue South Florida friend, Mom marveled at the level and speed of support and caring the pet blogging community provides… and few of us know or knew each other prior to blogging!

BSL opportunity for change fails in Miami.  Here’s a scathing (vocab builder) post about the results and one from our NBC station.

Oops, I did it again… we had another storm yesterday (of course) and Mom returned to a similar version of Mischief Monday.  She quietly fixed the apparatus and let it go because we all felt extra sad yesterday.

Mom spoke to Austin’s Mom on Wednesday and thanked her for her lovely note of appreciation.  Miss Judy said she may ask Mom to stop by and train her and Mr. Andy.  BOL!    Mom told Mr. Andy, (her employer), she misses Austin and might need a visit.  He smiled broadly and said anytime.   He told Mom Austin already misplaced his rope!

Another great, well, at least better than yesterday, day.

The Pull of (P) Email…

Hey It’s Jet Here.

We promise to give credit to our blogpal who used the “P” word first; however, Mom cannot recall who it was right now.

This week, the (P)email pull drew me… and therefore JJ and Mom to alter our morning right, fetch Miss Mary Ann’s paper route.  As we rounded the corner passing Max’s house, I did the “I’m not budging stance.”  Sometimes, Mom can cajole (Vocab Builder Project) me by talking to me forehead to forehead.  Not this week.  At first Mom thought I instinctively knew she had less time and naturally wanted to extend our walking time.  NOT SO!

Out of curiosity and need to keep us moving, Mom crossed the street.  Sure enough, I went right to the traffic light pole and JJ joined me for a MAJOR sniff-fest.  Even better, JJ and I sniffed our way down three houses with three connected swales, with new palm trees; tall ones, petite ones, so many trees, so little time!  After house three, Mom insisted we cross to keep our routine of bringing Miss Mary Ann’s paper from her driveway to her door.  JJ and I crossed back to our usual route with no problem.  Mom fetched the paper, placed it on the light pole and off we went as we do each weekday.

As to the contents of the (p)email… well, I’m afraid the donor requires anonymity and privacy.  We will have to wait until the contents become “unclassified” to divulge, sorry.

Another great (p)email day!

Monday Mischief – From an Unexpected Feline

Hey It’s Jet Here.

You’ll never guess who the mischief maker was this week?  Our BFF (best feline friend), Savvy, from Savannah’s Paw Prints.  How can she make mischief from across the country you ask?

Well, in a typically sweet and clever comment on July 6, Savvy’s last sentence read,

“And Jet, do you have French pedi’s on your toesies too??”

Mom had to admit to Miss Linda by phone, (they were speaking about a really cool project we have percolating (vocab builder), that she didn’t quite get the reference.  Miss Linda cleared it up by explaining that in my photos, I have little bits of white fluff on my paws which look like a French pedi!  Mom’s lightbulb went on! (Poor Mom, she’s a smidge slow I fear.) Below are my front paws and then back paws.  Mom disturbed my beauty rest, so forgive my mediocre (vocab builder) poses.

I asked Mom to inform Miss Linda to inform Savvy that MANLY MEN like moi DO NOT HAVE FRENCH PEDI’S!!!  Mom thought this was a hoot.  Guys, I have a reputation to uphold… come on, give the ol’ Jetster a break! (Oh and for good measure… Mom’s chemically sensitive and can’t have that polish stuff in the house.)

Oh no, this is doubly embarrassing… Mom went to fetch a picture of Savvy and we saw her elegant French pedis… now we get it even more… perhaps the mischief is on us!

Bad to worse… we were looking for another photo of Savvy and noticed a post we missed last week on Savvy’s courage getting her nails clipped.  She talked about a French pedi… YIKES… Can you say … MOM AND I TOTALLY MISSED THE BOAT – Mischief on us for sure!  BOL!  We claim too tired to concentrate…well… it sounded good…

Another great, whose mischief is it anyway, day!

Bits and Pieces – JJ Update

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Remember last Saturday when Mom cancelled JJ’s checkup due to inclement (vocab builder) weather?  Well, she went to see Dr. Shaffer yesterday.  Along with JJ, Mom carted an extra item to Dr. Shaffer – double wrapped solid waste provided by yours truly!  EWWWWW!  Well, better the waste than ol’ Jetty boy having a certain long item stuck into the back part of said K9 looking for hookworms!  (Great news: No wigglers lurking … I’m WORM FREE!)

According to Mom, the office hopped with K9s and felines entering the Paradise Animal Center B & B, allowing their humans to gallivant (vocab builder) on vacation.  A few semi-emergency cases popped in added to the regular schedule of appointments.

Good News/Bad News on Little Miss Waxy Ear:  Good NewsNO HOOKWORMS – Yippee!  Bad News: That darned half a waxy plug is still lodged against JJ’s eardrum.  No infection, however, Dr. Shaffer said eventually, two bad possibilities can arise and we HAVE TO get that blob OUT.  JJ endured another ear flush session and medicine insertion with courage and patience.  She returns on Tuesday for a final decision: plug removal via flush or via sedation and mechanical scooper.  Cross your paws for the first option!

Jet’s note to ear wax plug:

  • Wax belongs in candles.
  • Wax gets rubbed on cars.
  • Wax seals old fashioned envelopes.
  • Wax protects vegetables.
  • SCRAM and leave my sister’s ear ALONE!

Another great, scram ear wax, day.

He looked mostly like this.

P.S. Way back in November, when we were young bloggers, Mom and I shared an incident with a peacock.  Last night, Miss Mary Ann, Dixie, JJ, Mom and yours truly took a newish evening route which includes the reverse order of a section of our weekend route.  Their in the EXACT same spot almost 7 months later was a peacock, tail down.  I didn’t want to frighten Dixie, so, I stared down that colorful guy and left him with tail down – Jet 2, Peacock 1/2 (gave him credit for not running away!)
