Since joining Casa Jet in 2008, the male/female ratio Paw-Jet was even; three guys: me, Puffy and Fluffy and three ladies: Mom, Rachel and Koko/JJ.  Sadly this year, I’m the lone male who must concoct Valentines wishes for all three ladies of the house.

jet's bellyI’ll begin with Mom.  Let’s see, I’ve already provided my belly at 4:55 a.m. for an opener.  Since she works from home today, (although she mentioned she has a bunch of outside appointments from morning until mid afternoon), I will have extra opportunities for cuddles and snuggles, which she adores.  Oh, oh… she removed a pack of chicken and a pack of lamb chops from the freezer last night.  I bet she’s cooking tonight!  If my hunch pans out (get it?  Pans out!!!), as her faithful Kitchen K9, we’ll have a fun time in the kitchen, too.  I won’t give away all my ideas, because you need to leave room for flexibility, living in the moment, you know… the genius that is K9!  (For those of you who know how much Mom LOVES basketball (UMiami is #3 right now, oh my gosh, first time EVER, and the HEAT… well Lebron has crossed over to hoops nirvana Paw-Jet right now… this weekend is All-Star break, so, our tivo will no doubt get a workout!  I love sharing hoops viewing with Mom; another great idea!)

Rachel, hmmm… she’s at her dad’s today… I’ll have to save up ideas for her this weekend.  I’ll visit her during TV time, leave her food alone, try not to bark during her long Sleeping Beauty teenage sleep sessions, and give her a few famous Jetty kisses.

Little Miss Isn’t Every Day Valentines Day, well; she’s easy peasy, a slam dunk, a no brainer!!! On today’s schedule – extra wrestling, paw cleaning (I gingerly and gently give Little Miss Spa Day a mani quite often), signaling Mom to give us one of Little Miss Chew Girl’s favorite dental treats after our evening constitutional.

What Mom?  You would like to write?  Ok.

valentine bow tie 2Jetty, thank you in advance for your Valentines gifts, you show us every day how much you love us.  Look away for a few lines, I want to share what I shall give to you today.  First of all my gratitude and love for joining my life; you bring joy, laughter, affection, mindfulness Paw-Jet, manly man swagger, a debonair style, care taking, and love each and every day.  On the tangible Paw-Jet side, how about a hard boiled egg, a kale stem, maybe some chicken/lamb tidbits, a hoof after our evening walk and a big brush/massage before bed!

valentine bow tie 3I’ve always found the fact that I give you your Heartworm meds on the 14th of the month, which in February coordinates with Valentines Day kind of funny… not the ha ha funny, the hmm, that’s interesting kind of funny.

Love you my boy and this year, it feels sweeter.  Mom.

Another great Valentines Day.

Sympawny #14

Hey, it’s Jet Here.

Since I felt the need to report on the Westminster show in a timely fashion, I fell behind on the last Valentines occurrence this week.  When Mom, JJ and I went for our morning constitutional at 6:15 a.m., on Valentines Day, the sky was still dark.  Mom carries a flashlight in case we need to see something along the way.  Unexpectedly, we encountered the following:

  • Buddy, the Golden Retriever, barking a baritone staccato Valentines greeting.
  • We rounded the corner to catch a sonorous bay from Max, the beagle.
  • Lola and her new schnauzer sister contributed a frantic mid range duet.
  • Dixie, the mini Doxie, performed her rhythmic soprano bursts of barking.
  • Abby, the Border collie, must have had laryngitis or slept in.
  • Cody tried to conduct (small hint of Napoleon complex with this guy, but, he’s too cute, so, we cut him some slack.) and finally agreed to a protracted barking segment.
  • Freddy the poodle, the elder statesman, made sure everyone stayed on key.
  • Pebbles, the Kathleen Turner voiced boxer, gave her whoa, whoa, whoa solo and tried to purloin my attention from Freddy, Cody, JJ, Mom and Mr. Richard. (No luck this time.)
  • Lola the chocolate lab gave a far away bark from the back part of her house.
  • Vance, Vilda, and Rex, (the Westies and … not sure what heritage Rex has) flew out their doggie door and added a percussion component like a washboard from the wire mesh covering their metal gate.  They became so excited as we passed, they created a three-part fast paced harmony in a loud, slightly squeaky tone.
  • Simba slept in as far as we could tell, as did Neve.

By the time we reached our lawn again, I realized we spontaneously created SYMPAWNY #14, an ode to Valentines Day.  I never realized the vast array of musical talent we have on one oblong block.  Now, if we had just recorded the piece for posterity.  Darn.  Guess we’ll have to go for a future jam session.

Another great and symphonic day.

Mom Got Mushy, Ok, I Got Mushy

Hey, It’s Jet Here.

To maintain my Manly Man reputation, I will lead you to believe that celebrating Valentine’s Day, well, it’s mushy.  The whole kiss thing, lovey dovey stuff seems artificially elevated for one day in February.

However, if you read between the fur, you will learn the truth; I love when Mom gives me lovies.  Before GRSF rescued me, I … too painful to write about… let’s say I did not receive lovies.  Here are the lovely things Mom does with me:

  • She stops everything when I nuzzle her a certain way and gives me a short massage and tells me how much she loves me in a soft voice.
  • She understands when I’m too scared to leave the house.
  • She will take me out at whatever time my courage returns to keep me comfortable.
  • She permits me to cuddle up on our her bed.
  • She calls me all sorts of special names.
  • She makes sure I receive yummy, healthy kibble, delicious dental treats and tidbits when she cooks.
  • She pampers me during spa day with special treats and manly man smelling shampoo.
  • She opens the windows for me when we ride in the car, even if she would prefer the a/c.
  • She brought JJ into the house so I did not stay an only dog after Koko passed.
  • She generously transcribes my thoughts for my blog posts.
  • She brings us to places where we can run leash free and have play dates.

For all these reasons and more, I love you Mom.

Jetty? Yes Mom.  May I write a bit?  Sure, go ahead.

Your list brought tears to my eyes.  You and I truly bonded after about 10 months.  I’m so grateful to have you in my life.  You possess equal parts humor, sweetness, kindness, and energy.  My list would occupy pages and pages; I’ll continue to tell you and show you how full my heart feels every day.  Happy Valentines Day my boy, I love you, too!

Another great and mushy day.

We Love When Mom Teaches

Hey, it’s Jet Here.

On the day before Mom has a scheduled Kitchen Counselor class, lots of food enters the house through the garage/kitchen door.  As Mom’s Kitchen K9s, we must inspect the merchandise!  Oh, the scents, we struggle with our patience button for Mom to unpack.

Today, she will teach a diabetic support group cooking ideas for Valentine’s Day.  Plus, she accepted a dare from the group last quarter that she could cook collard greens in 5 minutes.  I’m betting on Mom!  Then, in the afternoon, she teaches this thing called an interactive cooking class at the University of Miami.  Mom loves working with IEP, the Intensive English Program, because the students come from all over the globe.  Today’s theme – How Americans Celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Anyway, Mom often does this “prep” stuff to make her classes run smoothly.  Koko and I LOVED prep time.  After all, as her Kitchen K9s, we had jobs to do like quality control!  Yesterday, JJ experienced Prep initiation.  At one point, Mom had beets (for chocolate beet cake?) and broccoli roasting in the oven (separately), turkey bacon in two skillets on the stovetop (oh the aroma!), collards rinsing in the sink while she cut pineapple on the cutting board.

Little Miss Helpful had two paws on the counter repeatedly to see:

  • How to drain turkey bacon.
  • How much rinsing is necessary per collard leaf.
  • How much tin foil must you cut to properly wrap three beets.
  • What size floret works best when roasting broccoli.
  • How close should you get to Mom when she chops three onions.

When Mom dropped the first tidbit of collard leaf, JJ snapped it up before Mom even knew what happened.  All we heard was crunch, crunch, crunch.  Knowing how much I LOVE collards, Mom immediately invited me to sit for a stem.  JJ then scurried over for her first stem.  Mom tried to capture us chewing collard stems like stogies without success, we chomped too fast.  After three or four attempts, she worried our tummies would get upset.  So, no pictures this time.

Another great Kitchen Counselor Prep day.
