Mom Update with a Side of Superbowl

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Mom said I could share the scoop with you today. She’s been home from the hospital for eight days now. Little Miss Where Did Mom Go and I met Mom at the door. She quietly sat down and we met her energy level while showing her how much we missed her. We exchanged lovies for about 20 minutes, heaven I tell ya!

Mom had lots of funny smells on her which, I, Nurse/Detective Jetty insisted on investigating. Mom took me out for an empty the tank, while Angela took Little Miss Easy Peasy. Rachel helped Mom with our evening constitutional that first night and our next morning constitutional. She walked JJ while Mom walked me. After that, Mom felt strong enough to go back to our usual routine. She takes a lot more breaks for resting now, though.

3We’ve stuck close to Mom when she’s in the house. It doesn’t hurt that because of her new diagnosis of Crohn’s disease, she has lots of food experimentation to do. You know we, her faithful Kitchen K9s, will continue to serve as her QC (Quality Control) testers.

Because of her Crohn’s thingie, she has to pull way back on her activities for awhile. Mom sadly withdrew from two of her Kitchen Counselor commitments. Remember the new one? They graciously said they will hold her place for the fall. As for transcribing my posts, she asked if she could write directly to you… take it away, Mom.

thank you in many languatgesI cannot thank all of you enough for your kindness, support, love, healing wishes and concern these past few weeks. A special, immeasurable (VBP) quantity of gratitude goes out to Linda, Savannah’s Mom, who ran Jet’s blog for the week I was in the hospital. Please show her some love and appreciation. Snoopy and his Mum, Annette, texted and called me every day to make sure I was ok, as did Jodi, Sampson & Delilah’s Mom, from Heart of a Dog. My friendships with these women who I’ve never met in person, demonstrates the power of the pet blogging community to make connections I never anticipated. Rebecca and Wendy, my two dear friends from Golden Rescue South Florida, and diligent (VBP) commenters read Linda’s posts to me each day, because I did not have any device in the hospital where I could read posts, even if I wanted to. (Truthfully, I found myself staring out the window, around the room, at the ceiling, at the tv, at the parking garage, at my IV pole, at the door for days… it was weird.)

blog etiquetteI thought long and hard about what I could commit to and keep my recovery going forward. I always believed that I needed to reply to all those who took the time and care to comment on Jet’s post, visit that blog and comment. I know how hard we all work and I thought that was respectful. Right now, I do not feel I can expend (VBP) that amount of energy on Jetty’s blog. So, for awhile, I hope you will understand if I transcribe for Jetty a few times a week, answer your kind comments when I can, and know that I will visit your blogs as time permits, even if I do not leave a comment. I hope to teach what I learn about Inflamatory Bowel Disease eating styles to help others once I get the hang of it.  Gotta make lemonade out of the lemons! (except I cannot have lemons right now!)

Now for the side of Superbowl…

We’re a split home.  I’m rooting for the Ravens, with part of Mom (the colors work well for me!).  You see, Mr. Ray Lewis played college football at UMiami and… Mom read a great book about the Ravens from author Jon Feinstein many years ago. (Miss Linda taught Mom how to use PZap over the phone today!)

Little Miss I Left My Heart in San Francisco will root for the 49ers with the other half of Mom.  You see, Mom’s favorite place in the whole United States is the San Francisco area.  Plus, Little Miss Fashionista likes how the team colors highlight her fur.

Follow Up Friday – Hannukatized Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

boty-1starBefore we start our weekly roundup, we’re so excited to share the news that we received an award on Wednesday.  We promised to post about it yesterday, however, we ran out of steam.  (Mom’s fever got the best of her.)  One of our newish blogpals, Miss Ann from My Pawsitively Pets, bestowed the Pawesome Blog of the Year Award on us.  (You MUST read the post with Niblet imitating a Christmas ornament!)

Yippee, yahoo, wowee, wow, wow, fever and all, Mom joined us for a round of the Happy Dance.  We immediately send the award back to Miss Ann and promise to post a proper thank you, following the full rules and such next Thursday.

Thank you for bearing with us as we continue to dig out (and make progress) from our comment box filled with kind words of support and comfort regarding Puffy’s crossing.

Ok, on with FUF!

follow-up-fridayOur friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and has successfully turned her wonderful idea into a robust blog hop!

Saturday – Did You Hear the One About…

mischief master classMy human sister, Rachel, could not believe how many of my pals wished her Happy Birthday.  On her behalf, we send out an 18 year old, like 3 in big K9 years, THANK YOU!

So many of you sent in news that you downloaded the book (great for holiday gifts!), looked forward to the soft cover edition (on its way), complimented my mischief skills, and complimented and thanked Mom for editing that Mom and I stayed permanently blushed the whole day!

Black & White Sunday – Life’s Simple Pleasures

Many of you wondered how Little Miss I Have A New Toy fit that ball in her mouth.  Mom says she has a case of TMJ brewing!  JJ continues to favor that green ball, falling asleep with it just like that several times as Mom rubbed her belly.  She’s a funny one.  We must thank our young, human neighbor Ruby, for sharing one of her toys with JJ.

Monday Mischief – Phew Last Minute Mischief

password mischiefGreat news!  Mr. Danny “the Wonderful” from Link2City, gave Mr. GoDaddy “the business” during two, 1.5 hour discussions on Monday and by Tuesday morning Mom’s Kitchen Counselor email worked like a charm.  Mr. Danny now manages Mom’s Kitchen Counselor website and Kitchen Counselor blog in addition to her Kitchen Counselor Newsletter eblast (which has been problem free since inception 3 years ago).  He’s almost finished repairing the mess that was the KC blog, so, Mom should be back posting there soon.  Thanks for sending in so many empathetic (VBP – vocab builder project) comments.  We appreciate and we’re sorry so many of you understand.

Tasty Tuesday – realdogs Eat Chicken Jerky Tenders

5Lots of you commented on how cool it was that realdogs uses real dogs on their packages.  The Urban Hounds particularly enjoyed the photo on our package!  Can you believe we’re now part of Nip and Bones’ Baby Patches Testing Team? Whoo hoo!

The humans wrote to Mom and agreed with the idea of cutting the jerky in small pieces to make it last longer, HMPH… whose side are you on??? Everyone appreciated the all natural, grain free, made in the USA, two ingredient jerky.  Hey Mom? When can we have more?  (When you get a good run in!)

Wordless Wednesday – On Hannukatizing and Meeting Haley

hannukatizing 2012Mr. Wil from Marking Your Territory, said “Hannukatizing is officially my new favorite holiday verb.”  Whoo hoo!  We received so many compliments on Mollie, Alfie and Miss Stella’s pawesome card.  Do pop over to Mollie’s blog and share your appreciation over there, too!

Haley’s story warmed your hearts as much as it did ours.  A few of the manly men inquired about a date with the lovely K9!

Thankful Thursday – Prezzies for me? The Ultimate Gotcha Day Stretch

17We need to clarify (VBP) that we are NOT blaming Barnie the Beagle! We feel the Customs humans did not take the time to read the CLEAR label stating Dog Treats and left my pawesome, ROYAL, gift box from Mollie’s Dog Treats, ordered by my BFF, Savannah, in a hot tropical corner somewhere for EIGHTEEN days before allowing the USPS to place said box at my door, along with an army of ants!

3We tenderly unwrapped each item to show you how thoughtful Savannah and Miss Linda were in sending me such a great Gotcha Day/1st Blogiversary gift and how special Mollie, Alfie, and Miss Stella’s efforts were in  baking and wrapping their artisan treats.

11Thanks for the advance compliments on how I will look in my Hannukah bandanna.  You may not have realized, Little Miss Always Accessorizing received one, too!  We’ll model for you next week!

Another great everything worked out week.

Follow Up Friday – Weighty Issue Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and recently turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!

Oh, Mom and I have a Hurricane Sandy donation follow-up to share before we begin our weekly roundup.  Remember Mom and I decided to donate to Best Friends Sandy Relief Fund?  Well, a few nights later, Mom’s minding the kitchen making her dinner when the phone rings.  Out of the blue, one of the founders of Best Friends says hello and tells her he wants to thank her for her donation.  Now, we wish we could share that the donation was monumental in size; however, truthfully, it was modest.  (Tough times at Casa Jet, like in many other homes.)

Mom shared why she selected Best Friends, that she and my human sister had volunteered there, and that I interviewed Miss Ledy Vankavage about BSL in the spring.  Mom offered my interviewing skills anytime he thought my blog could help.  Go Mom!  Mr. Best Friends thanked Mom and I for the offer, thanked us again for the donation and wished us a good evening.  Wow.

Saturday Pet Blogger Hop – DIY Houses

Mom found an article describing really cool, modern, unusual DIY K9 houses.  Unfortunately, we realized they mainly served more petite heritages than ‘ol Jetty boy!  We appreciated the creativity of our feline friends who thought some of the offerings would suit them just fine.  Our petite heritage pals shared which designs resonated (VBP – vocab builder project) with them best.  Finally, K9 pals considered part of the mid-size to extra large breeds like Little Miss Golden Girl and I, communicated that they, too, considered their human’s entire abode (VBP) their DIY K9 home!

Sunday – Black & White Blog Hop – Foreshadowing

We left you with a mystery, a clue in fact, to the subject of our upcoming Monday post.  While a few pals guessed, no one deduced (VBP – I’m on a roll!) the answer.  One reader said it looked like I was at the dentist instead of the doctor!!!

Mischief Monday Blog Hop – Sliding Scale

So many readers sent in supportive words about my need for a small amount of daily medicine for my hypothyroidism.  Many of my K9 blogpals said they live with the same condition or some of their fursiblings *OTRB* and present had this issue as well. A few of my human friends wrote that they have the same thingie, too!  Who knew?    I’m A-OK and deeply appreciated your kind words of support… and agreement about the whole weight taking in public!

Tasty Tuesday – Holiday String Beans

JJ and I, Mom’s faithful Kitchen K9s, appreciate your positive feedback about our recipe selections this week.  We do have a mindfulness apology though.  You see, our friend, Bacon, from Piglove, mentioned he would enjoy one of the recipes MINUS THE BACON.  Whoops, not very PC of Casa Jet.  We suggested that veggie bacon or turkey bacon could serve as proper substitutes.  A  few K9 responses mentioned the continued distaste for green veggies.  We threw in a hint; try a dab of peanut butter to get you started!

Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop – Maggie, finally!

After many years, Mom finally met Mr. David’s fur family member, Maggie.  When she downloaded the photo from her phone, we were amazed that the photo looked like a painting!  Among many complimentary comments, we had a few requests for a play date/date with the beautiful Maggie!  We’ll share your requests with Mr. David upon his return from that Honeymoon thingie!

Thankful Thursday – Frosty Paws!

We finally celebrated my Gotcha Day with the Frosty Paws gift certificate we won (first EVER win) from Adventures of a Dog Mom.  So many of you enjoyed our photos and said how much you love the delectable ice cream, too.  My buddy, Gizmo, gave me a pawesome present, his homemade recipe for Frosty Paws!  Mom entered the recipe into her Kitchen Counselor data base with Gizmo as the author of course.  We shared the recipe with Gizmo (for his recipe collection) and some pals in other countries that may not have access to the product.  Let us know if you want Mom to email you as well!  Thank you again for your Gotcha Day wishes.

Another yummy FUF day!

Follow Up Friday – Question Mark Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and recently turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  We loved co-hosting last week, thanks  for the invitation.

Before we begin, we wanted to let you know that we decided to donate to help the animals challenged by Superstorm Sandy through Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.  We chose Best Friends, because in Mom’s experience, they walk the talk.  She’s followed them for about 15 years now and even took my human sister there to volunteer about 7 years ago.  We will also participate in some way with Heart Like a Dog’s “Dogs of Blogville” calendar contest, which will send help to a blogpal in need.

Saturday Pet Bloggers Hop – Blogiversary – Where did the Time Go?

Boy oh boy, how kind, generous and supportive you were, acknowledging our first year of blogging.  Some of you even thought Mom made the cake!  (not so… just a photo from Google Images!!)  We cannot express our appreciation of your open arms/paws.

Black & White Sunday – A Daylight Savings Time Riddle?

A resounding (VBP – vocab builder project) cheer for all of our blogpals who answered correctly!  I’m improving… I went from 4:10 to 4:38 to 4:43 to 6:00 (long election night walk and tv night!) to 5:12 to 5:20!  Our favorite comment suggested I had a black rug on top of me from the back of my head to my tail.  We responded that I would NEVER wear a toupee, I sprout naturally gorgeous black fluff!

Mischief Monday – Guess Who Came to Dinner?

Simba of course!  Most of you feel he arrived in time for Mom’s yummy cooking.  While true, (and Mom says thanks by the way), we believe he knows we will welcome him when he escapes, keep him safe, (give him some tidbits), and play with him until his family arrives.  Several of you wanted to join us for dinner as well… Mom says… ANYTIME!

Tasty Tuesday – Who likes Fennel?

Surprisingly, Mom’s faithful Kitchen K9s do!  Oh yes, we got your attention on this one.  Lots of comments expressed curiosity and surprise about fennel in general and K9s eating it specifically!  Our pack mate Neve and Miss Beverly wrote in to share how much Neve enjoys thinly sliced fennel, while Miss Beverly prefers her fennel roasted!

Oh, Miss Wendy thought we were wearing coats, actually we had our Halloween costumes on because … it was HALLOWEEN!

Wordless Wednesday – Who needed a break from the election?

EVERYONE!!!  So glad you enjoyed the comic relief of Dudley’s video as much as we did; thanks to Mollie for sending in a comment describing how to post videos for Mom… Also, Little Miss Professional Paw Shaker has stayed grounded so far after winning her seat on the Happy, Happy commission!

Thankful Thursday – Who needs to Apologize?

MOM!  Yup, Mom went ROGUE, adlibbing a title I DID NOT APPROVE and scared a bunch of my blogpals to bits! Sorry, Mea Culpa etc… I will keep a shorter leash on her transcribing activities.  All are healthy at Casa Jet.

Glad we thought to share nicknames for seven inhabitants of Casa Jetty as part of our “Seven Things About Me” Award Procedure.  Now you have the inside scoop!  Gratitude again to our four pals who bestowed the award on us.

Another great question mark week.

Follow Up Friday – Buddy Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea.  Beginning last week, she teamed up with Miss Linda, from 2 Brown Dawgs (Miss Linda who saved JJ’s life!) and turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  Congrats!

Saturday: Buddy Sitting

JJ, Puffy, Mom and I continued Buddy, the Beagle, sitting.  We learned that Beagles have way different characteristics than retrievers.  We learned that Buddy could give the Energizer Bunny a run for the money as the little Dude never stopped moving.  Mom had trouble taking photos to show you how adorable he is.  Can you believe the guy actually waited for 10-15 minutes before eating his kibble?  Mom gave him lots of lovies during this time and eventually coaxed (VBP) him into eating.  JJ and I scarf our food in 1 minute!  Mom also mentioned how EASY Buddy walked, very little pulling… hint hint… What?

Sunday: Buddy Vision

During a 4 minute oxygen replenishment rest, Mom snapped a photo of the Budmeister to show you!

Mischief Monday: Buddy’s (Mis) Adventure

OMD, did the Bud-Man cause mischief!  Mom walked into his kitchen and found this!  If you think that was a good dose of mischief, wait until this Monday!  Looked like Buddy thought he was a beaver instead of a beagle!

Tasty Tuesday:  We Love Broccoli

We couldn’t wait to share two broccoli recipes with you; one with raw broccoli and the other roasted!  Because Mom offered the glorious crucifer two ways, JJ and I received double the tidbits!  Many readers shared: that their K9s had never tried the green goodness, they themselves either loved or disliked the tree looking veg or they couldn’t wait to make either or both recipes! Do let us know if you try them.

Wordless Wednesday: Evo the Great

We all agree – Evo is exceptionally gorgeous, striking and regal!  Thank you for sharing your insights on this giant breed.  Mr. Matt will so appreciate your compliments on his special girl.

Thankful Thursday: Backlogged

Blogpals, you did it again; you understood, empathized (VBP) and supported how backlogged we have gotten.  Mom and I are beginning our efforts to catch up on the generous awards we have received.  This week, we acknowledged receipt of The Addictive Blog Award from Zena at The Princess Tails.  We love sharing our story and equally love passing awards on to other wonderful blogs.

 Another great Buddy/broccoli/Evo/Addictive Blog week!

P.S. Mr. Ron was super sick this last week, so, no resolution to week 4 of Mom’s Outlook problems… (poor lady may end up bald from pulling hair out!) Also, if you want to read a great post about the Meandering Mollie party, you MUST, MUST, MUST click here!

Koko – The Therapist is In!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

My fursister and Mom volunteered weekly at Miami Children’s Hospital for 4.5 years.  Koko LOVED going.  Mom used Koko’s special leash and often added a fancy collar to Koko’s accessories.  Even though we all know that sitting in the backseat is safer for K9s, Koko felt like she would have a more meaningful ride to “work” if she sat in the passenger seat!  Koko drew many stares and smiles from other drivers as Mom threaded her way through morning rush hour.

Upon entering the parking garage, Mom clipped on Koko’s ID which seemed to flip on Koko’s Happy Hostess mode.  Mom educated everyone who saw she and Koko together, explaining that Koko was a therapy dog here to visit the children and their families.

After walking down the LONG hallway to check in at the Volunteer Office, Koko greeted Grace giving her lots of lovies in exchange for a treat to be delivered after working!  They took the elevator to 2E and began their visits.  Here are a few of the most memorable experiences:

  • A little boy, about 4 years old, jibber-jabbered to Koko in his own language as he stood beside her petting her back.  The boy’s Mom began to cry.  My Mom freaked out inside wondering what she had done wrong.  After the boy’s Mom settled down (felt like forever, probably three minutes in reality), Mom asked if she or Koko did something upsetting.  The Mom replied that the little boy was autistic and had not uttered a word in over a month before setting eyes on Koko.
  • Mom knocked as always announcing Koko’s arrival and asked if she and Koko could enter.  The boy’s Mom said ok, explaining that her son, about seven or eight feared dogs.  Mom had Koko sit beside her by the door and spoke to the boy, telling funny Koko stories. (let’s say Mischief Monday caliber.)  The next week, she and Koko went halfway into the room.  The third week, she had Koko sit below the window.  The boy and the Mom sat on the pull out chair.  Mom explained that most people who fear dogs worry about a dog biting them.  Mom always showed the families how Koko had a soft mouth and what that meant.  She told the little boy she would hold Koko’s head (giving Koko lots of kisses) and he could pet her tail.  He ended up petting all the way up to her mid back.  The Mom had tears in her eyes.  Several weeks later, they coincidentally met in the hallway.  The boy was visiting one of the doctor’s offices for a follow-up.  Mom had Koko stay, held her head thinking the boy would pet Koko’s swishing tail.  He surprised both his Mom and my Mom by petting Koko all the way up to her neck!  What a victory!
  • Koko believed all beds were meant for her.  She could not fathom why the hospital did not permit her to hop right up and cuddle.  At 55 lbs. you can imagine the answer!  Mom figured out a solution and placed a chair beside the child’s bed, Koko hopped up, and just like Lucy… The Doctor was IN!  Mom always wanted to get Koko a pair of glasses!  Anyway, towards the end of their volunteering, the first children from the Haitian earthquake started arriving.  Koko transcended the language barrier, sitting in her chair, communicating love and warmth.  Working with translators, Mom learned the words for dog, pretty, sweet and girl.  After the horrors the children lived through, sometimes stroking Koko, receiving a Koko Kiss or looking into each other’s eyes nose-to-nose, provided a few minutes of relief.

Mom considered volunteering with Koko a privilege, knowing they brought a brief ray of sunshine into a difficult situation.  My human grandfather always wondered how Mom could stay so positive seeing sick children every week.  She responded, “You see shoulders relax, sleep begin, laughter emit, eyes soften, fear subside, strangers become connected, positive energy flow, etc. and know that Koko and I made a difference for those children and their families as well as the professionals working so hard to help. You leave with a smile and a slurp of water (served from the water fountain in a cup!)

Another great pet therapy day.
