On Hannukatizing and Meeting Haley…

Hey It’s Jet Here.

When Mollie and Alfie asked who would like to be Christmasized last month, we emailed Miss Stella and asked if we could be Hannukatized since that’s the holiday we celebrate.  We complimented their festive bandanas and guess what?  They made Hannukah bandanas speedy quick.  Oh, what a talented and thoughtful bunch… Look what we found on their blog Monday.

Miss Stella we’re sending tons of Jetty kisses and JJ hugs your way for making us feel so special for our holiday.

Mom wanted to keep her promise to feature Haley today.  She met Haley and Miss Elizabeth on Sunday at Pet’s Best.  Haley, now 12 and still  fetching, was dumped as a pup at our local hospital and Miss Elizabeth became her guardian angel.  The two have been inseparable since. Haley looked like a combination of Golden Retriever and Shepherd? and had the personality of sugar.  Mom tried so hard to get a picture of her beautiful shepherd -style ears up.

Best shot of her ears, Mom tried like 8 times!

Haley found the perfect forever home thanks to Miss Elizabeth.

Another great “H” for Hannukatizing and Haley day!

Follow Up Friday – Koko Style

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea.

This week, we enjoyed sharing some memories of my golden sister, Koko, with you.  We can barely process that a year has passed since she crossed OTRB.  We began on Saturday by sharing how Koko came to live with Mom, Mr. Fred and my human sister, Rachel.  Mom realized that she’s goofed for years on the annual that Koko joined the family, 2004, not 2005!  Many of you enjoyed the Dog Fancy article.

Black and White Sunday – Mom’s Favorite

Mom shared her one of her favorite Koko photos which captured her essence.

Mischief Monday – Baking Class

Oh we got you laughing with this one.  You agreed that the lack of a photo was a total bummer!  As Mom reached into her memory files, she realized that fodder (VBP – vocab builder project) for several more Koko stories remain… stay tuned!

Tasty Tuesday – She Loved Red Peppers

Many of our anipals wrote in stating they did not know K9s could eat sweet red peppers and would now try it with their K9s.  Please let us know the results… JJ and I can’t wait to chomp on a few tidbits ourselves!

Wordless Wednesday – A Playdate with Nancy

Mom thinks our great white shark photo camouflages our marshmallow natures.  If you saw only that one photo of Koko and I, you would think we needed red zone collars, flashing danger lights or yellow warning signs.  As my special friend, Miss Wendy says, our “bitey faces” belie our marshmallow nature, we never chomp, we only “jaw” play with our buddies or family!  Oh, and lots of the ladies wrote in about my white poofy chest! (Dudes, who knew this would be such a chick magnet???)

Thursday – A Special Interview

Savannah, our BFF, (best feline friend), conducted a meaningful interview sharing my rescue story.  Her project, Real Rescue Dogs are Talking  elevates exposure for adopting older K9s and felines.  Savvy adroitly (VBP) teases out issues during the recovery process.  Thanks Savvy! (and Miss Linda!)

Another great memory filled day.

Remembering Koko – Our Week of Memories

Hey It’s Jet Here.

A year ago today, Koko, our golden girl crossed OTRB.  She was the inspiration for my blog because both Mom and I needed a pick-me-up.  We did not begin posting until Halloween, as we were mired (vocab building project VBP) in sadness for quite some time.  Join us this week for our tribute to Koko, Mom’s first ever K9 and my first ever K9 sister (I think!).

Mom spent lots of time in her teen years finding ways to visit her Aunt and Uncle, when, really… she wanted to snuggle, pet and play with their gorgeous, sweet golden, Brandywine.  Her Aunt took her to the famous golden breeder in Princeton, NJ every now and then.  Mom wanted to hide and never leave the gaggle of goldens!  (Her hair color kind of matched!)  Her Aunt took her to the Westminster the year Brandy’s mate won his group.  As she got older and her cousins went off to college, she began dogsitting when her Aunt and Uncle traveled.  She was hooked on Goldens for life!

When Mom learned about rescue in college, she vowed that when the time was right to share her life with a K9, she would rescue.  Somehow, she had to reconcile that decision with her unbending desire to share her life with a golden retriever.

About 10 years ago now, she was in NYC with Mr. Fred and Rachel and met a golden on the street.  Of course she had to chat with the owner and pet the pup!  She learned that breed rescues existed.  Well, that took care of that.  Mom and Mr. Fred adopted Koko in February 2004 from Golden Rescue South Florida.  Here’s the story as told to Dog Fancy in August 2004.
