B4TC – Food Banks for Pets

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Texas-buildingBefore we begin, we piqued (VBP) your mystery of the fun kind yesterday with Clue #1 on my BFF, Savannah’s post yesterday.  Today, may we direct your attention to Clue #2 by visiting my buddy, Texas!

Mom disappeared from early morning until late night with a brief return mid afternoon yesterday.  Remember I mentioned she secured another part-time job?  Well, turns out, she’s now part of the Chef/Instructor team of common threads logoCommon Threads in Miami.   From the Common Threads website: “We teach low-income children to cook wholesome and affordable meals because we believe that through our hands-on cooking classes we can help prevent childhood obesity and reverse the trend of generations of non-cookers, while celebrating our cultural differences and the things people all over the world have in common.”  Founded by Chef Art Smith, yes, Oprah’s first personal Chef, Little Miss Kitchen K9 and I are proud Mom will help other human’s eat healthy.

joplin tornadoWe now understand Mom’s “pet peeve” that in an abundant country such as ours, so many humans and animals go hungry.  Multiply by a weather crisis like Hurricane Katrina, the Joplin tornadoes or Superstorm Sandy and lives can change irreparably (VBP) in an instant.

pet food donationDuring the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, Mom’s ex-Mother-in-law gave her leftover pet food coupons from her grocery demo.  Mom and her friend, Ellen, used a bunch to purchase bags of food for delivery to our Animal Rescue for an organized transport to New Orleans.

pongo warehouseWe know from reading, so many of our blogpals help out.  You may or may not have heard about Pet Food Banks or Pet Food Pantries.  During these stressful economic times, when so many families have lost their homes, unexpectedly downsized, or suffered long term job loss, food banks have made an ever increasing impact.  Pet Food Banks and Pet Food Pantries help keep beloved furfamily members in the home instead of surrendered to overcrowded shelters or worse.  We found a great site which differentiates (VBP) between food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens and other similar terms.

To find national Pet Food Banks or Pet Food Pantries in your area, SEARCH either of those terms.

We think  Sugar and Kol will understand our lack of recipe today and still permit us to join the Tasty Tuesday Hop, today is our forty-first participating post!

Another great, thank goodness for food banks/food pantries day.

I Already Have the Olympic Spirit

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Sorry I missed you yesterday, Mom said the day just slipped away from her… she promised me that slipped away did not equal procrastination (vocab builder).  Hmmm…

Anyway, here at Casa Jet, we LOVE the Olympics.  Koko, Mom and I enjoyed the Winter Olympics in 2010 together and now JJ, Mom and I will enjoy our first Summer Olympics together.  With permission, I must divulge (vocab builder) Mom gets misty-eyed during opening ceremonies when all the countries march into Olympic Stadium.  She asked me to share with the humans that she majored in history, international development and political science in college many moons ago.  Readers of my blog know she likes spectator sports, so the combination gives insight into her enjoyment of this worldwide spectacle.

We watched Miss Oprah’s Olympic Superstar episode this week.  All of the athletes interviewed stated they wanted to attain the ultimate level of excellence.  Miss Mary Lou said that everyone competing already achieved excellence before arriving; the difference between medaling and not came down to mental toughness and passion on that particular day.

I work on attaining excellence (with Mom of course) for my blog.  I do not compete with other blogs, rather I learn and grow from their excellence.  Without my blog, I would never have the opportunity to meet the following anipals representing their fine nations:

If we’ve missed some anipals, we apologize ahead of time, write in and let us know, we’ll edit immediately!

Another great, Olympic spirit, day.

Jasmine Joy is a Southpaw…

Hey, It’s Jet Here.

I finally have a subject for my Scooby Doo Academy Powers of Observation case study. Our assignment over holiday break for Repetitive Behavior Class required us to observe the same activity for a week to two weeks and dictate the facts and conclusions. For a while, I was stymied; too many choices!

Then I noticed, on all of our empty-the-tank and solid business walks, J.J. would only do the deeds when she was on the grass to the left of Mom. At first I wondered if my tendency to walk on the right (because Mom holds my leash in her stronger hand) might have influenced the “new girl.” I asked Mom to check during the few times when J.J. goes potty without me. Mom confirmed, nothing happens unless J.J. inhabits the left side.

Mom said Oprah Winfrey, Presidents Clinton and Obama, Ben Franklin, Albert Einstein and tons more famous humans favor their left limb. In sports, commentators often call lefties Southpaws, using a K9 reference. So, it’s fitting to call J.J. a Southpaw.  Longtime blog readers know how much Mom and I love basketball.  Well, our very own Miami Heat forward, Chris Bosh is a Southpaw.

Me, I’m ambidextrous, quite coordinated in fact. I empty the tank on either side and will do my solid business on either side of the street. I’m just a flexible kind of guy. I’ll need a few more days to derive conclusions for the case study; right now, I need an after breakfast, after constitutional, after wrestling with the Southpaw nap.

Another great and observant day.
