Thankful Thursday: The Next Big Thing

Hey It’s Jet Here.

So, there we were, minding our mischief on Monday when we saw a comment from Kirby bestowing an award on us called:

the-next-big-thing

What made this award incredibly meaningful was the way Kirby described my blog; he captured my essence to a “J”! Talk about making a manly man blush!

kirby with reindeer sweater“This is a dog blog of a wonderful black fluffy beauty called Jet. This blog is full of lots of doggy fun, including the odd recipe or two you might want to try making for your own furry one! But not only that Jet often goes out of his way to give lovingly in-depth and heartfelt sometimes hilarious replies/comments to everyone who comments on his blog or makes a post on their own blog he finds, and I think that good-natured personality alone has and will help Jetty stand out from the many blogs on WordPress”

thank you in many languatgesTears welled in Mom’s eyes and she had to pause a bit as she read this to me.   Profound gratitude almost covers the feeling when others truly understand your intent without spelling it out.  For that Kirby, you have endless supplies of Jetty manly man chest bumps, JJ hugs and belly rubs from Mom.

The Rules:  Nominate 5 blogs I think are amazing and could be the next BIG thing, in one way or another.  (We agree and will quote Kirby on the following: “Some of the nominations I already consider successful blogs, but in which I believe will even grow more!”)

  1. img_0040Savannah’s Paw Tracks – I know, she’s my BFF and I’m her Champion… however, I promise you, I’m choosing Savvy’s blog for the right reasons:  Considering she burst onto the blog scene less than a year ago and has already made a memorable impact is only one reason.  Savannah courageously shares her recovery process.  As a talented and gentle blogspondent for her series, “Real Rescue Cats and Dogs are Talking – LIFE CHANGING INTERVIEWS WITH SAVANNAH,”  Savannah illuminates inspiring stories of adult K9/feline experiences.  Savvy writes with a clever wit and has developed a special new project for 2013!  (I cannot divulge (VBP – vocab builder project) the details, you’ll have to stay tuned!)
  2. img_3056The Princess Tails – Sadly, Princess Zena  (or PZ as I fondly call her) began her blogging career as a result of her beloved blogging brother, Zac, crossing Over the Rainbow Bridge.  I can empathize with her feelings.  PZ and her Producer set off on a course to make PZ a star.  Shortly after, the family grew with the addition of her standard poodle brother, Raffles.  Generously, PZ, agreed to “raise him right!”  PZ writes with an older sister’s lilt and you absolutely cannot miss her retellings of classic fairy tales/children’s stories.  She graciously included me in her latest retelling of Rapunzel!
  3. litchiLong Life Cats and Dogs – Lady Litchfield (I call her Lady Litchi), her feline brother Sabre, and Miss Susan write highly intelligent, well crafted, witty posts.  We appreciate their efforts to highlight global rescue organizations.  Lady Litchi often finds herself spearheading efforts to unravel global intrigue.  One can hardly imagine their blog has not celebrated one year yet.
  4. nerissaNerissa’s Life – Believe it or not, we just found Nerissa (from a recommendation), last evening.  Blogging for slightly over a year, this feline shows off her prowess in the fields of science, law, psychology etc… with intelligent, imaginatively written posts… For some reason, it seems like Nerissa is well known in the feline blogworld, and not as much with us K9s!
  5. bellas dog diaryBella’s Dog Diary – Bella burst into the world and the blog scene in the spring.  She already had a paw up in blogworld, because her blogging brother, Alfie, co-hosts the Mischief Monday Blog Hop and visits with his sister and her humans on occasion.  Bella shares her puppyhood with us through innocent eyes and pride in her Entelbucher heritage.  Additionally, her human shares beautiful photos of the English countryside as well.

We would have listed Gizmo from Terrier Torrent, however, Kirby bestowed the award on Gizmo concurrently with us!

Another great, The Next Big Thing, day.

Thankful Thursday – Digging Out – Part 1

Hey It’s Jet Here.

We admit it, we fell so behind in showing gratitude and passing on several awards over the last few months, we’re… well… ok… officially… EMBARRASSED.  So many blog pals have kindly bestowed awards and we… (actually Mom, I was ready to dictate as always, could not keep up).  We’re attempting to begin rectifying (VBP – vocab building project) that TODAY!  If we go out of order of receiving, this just means Mom found that particular kind post at that moment. (forgive her, she tries so hard!)

Ok… we begin with our newish friend, Zena, from The Princess Tails, who bestowed, The Addictive Blog Award on our blog recently.  We thank her Royalness profusely (VBP) as any Gentleman would.  We enjoy reading Zena’s posts because this girl knows how to live the Princess life!  Also, as previously mentioned, Mom loves names that begin with “Z”!

The Rules:

  1. Thank the benefactor: Check
  2. Link back to said benefactor: Check
  3. Talk about why I blog and why I started blogging:
  4. Post Award: Check
  5. Share with 10 other blogs

Mom and I began blogging almost a year ago because we both felt sad and lonely after the loss of my golden sister, Koko, may she be frolicking OTRB.   Mom was known for sharing funny stories and tidbits about Koko when they did their pet therapy at the Childrens Hospital and she continued when I joined the family.  People told Mom that my stories made them laugh and she should share them.

Mom figured at worst, she and I would lift our spirits each morning and at best, maybe someone else would lighten their day by reading our posts.  We thought maybe a friend or two, a family member here and there, and/or a work connection would glimpse a post.  Well, with some mentoring from Miss Jennifer we have been welcomed with open arms and paws by the pet blogging community.  We laugh, we cry, we share, we connect, we learn, we educate, we dialogue, we party with the deepest gratitude.

Share:

  • Long Life Cats and Dogs – Incredibly creative and committed to helping those that cannot speak for themselves… be prepared to laugh and keep up with Lady Litchi and Miss Susan!
  • Savannah’s Paw Tracks – Ok, she’s my BFF (best feline friend)… but seriously, Savvy and Miss Linda put out so much good, especially their Real Rescue Cats/Dogs are Talking Series.  Plus, Savvy shares her wit and exquisite writing each day…
  • Texas, a cat in NY and his family give us a worldly and cosmopolitan look at life.
  • Heart Like a Dog – Miss Jodi, Sampson and Delilah teach us much about training (real life tales), life, and such.  We LOVE Miss Jodi’s sassy, honest style and appreciate her recent efforts to create Follow Up Friday.
  • A new friend, Blueberry from Spotty, Spotty Polka Dotty, captured our attention for several reasons: she joined her forever family the same time JJ joined ours, her looks captivated me us, and she likes Tasty Tuesday, too!
  • Suka’s Just Sayin’ – Suka and Miss K keep us thinking.  They deal with Suka’s health issues with grace, all the while sharing art, wonderful quotes, daily activities and such.
  • My GBGV Life –  We love, love, love Miss Emma’s photos!  This girl has supermodel written all over her!  Plus she writes well too! And… does she know how to cook for Tasty Tuesday!
  • Adventures of a Dog Mom –  Miss Emily combines her activities with Boomer and Dottie in Wichita with foodie stuff… the perfect match for us!
  • A Tonk’s Tail  – We enjoy the different personalities of FaRaDaY, Maxwell and Allie as well as the wonderful creativity, wit, information and appreciation their human includes in their posts.
  • Bella’s Dog Diary –  We met Bella through her brother, Alfie, who cohosts the Mischief Monday Blog hop.  Bella shares her puppy-hood with us in beautiful photos, and entertaining posts.  She also visits her brother Alfie, so we can see how the sibs play together.

Another great Addictive Blog Award day!

We just joined the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop hosted by Pepi Smart Dog (formerly by Cokie the Cat!).

Fortunate Friday

Hey It’s Jet here.

Sabre and Miss Susan of Long Life Cats and Dogs, way far away in South Africa, bestowed the Very Inspired Blogger Award on our blog!  Whoo hoo!  Miss Susan jumped right into blogging last month and has already amassed (vocab builder) several well deserved awards.  Her trajectory (vocab builder) went from animal lover, to adopter of “unadoptables,” to student of animal behaviorism, to shelter volunteer. From Miss Susan, “Long Life Cats and Dogs has been started, in order to introduce people to the lives of the people and animals in these shelters.

With a writing style like your favorite author, where you can’t wait to turn the page and stay up too late reading, Miss Susan tackles topics great and small, serious and light-hearted.  Recently we compared horrible buggy creatures; South African Parktown Prawns versus Miami’s Grandpa Palmetto Bugs!    Miss Susan also introduced Mom to a new fruit (Marula fruit) grown only in six African countries.  Mom included this info in her latest Kitchen Counselor newsletter.

The Rules:

Thank the blog that bestowed the award: check.

State 7 things about yourself.  (I’ll let Mom take this one.)

  1. I wanted to share my life with animals since I was young; however, a family member had an allergy. I promised that when my life permitted, I would make up for lost time!
  2. I committed to adopting or rescuing; which began with a kitten in college, a cat found on our townhouse roof during a hurricane warning when I was 25, then Puffy and Fluffy (dubbed Pluffy by Miss Mary Ann) in 2003, Koko in 2005, Jet in 2008 and now JJ in 2011. I’m a sucker for golden retrievers thanks to my Aunt Harriet, who allowed me to dog sit her “once-in-a-lifetime” golden girl, Brandy, during the majority of my teen years.
  3. I try to volunteer as much as having 3-4 jobs will allow.
  4. I miss pet therapy at the children’s hospital.  Now that Koko has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and economic times changed, I will have to wait until another time in my life to pick that activity up again.
  5. I’ve had a windy road career wise culminating (vocab builder) by becoming The Kitchen Counselor, my absolute passion.
  6. I enjoy needle crafts like knitting and needlepoint, reading, photography, and wish I could travel, scuba, rock climb, hike and go to the spa WAY MORE OFTEN.
  7. I think I need a weekly massage to help my hands and arms with all the writing I do!  I’m deeply grateful and appreciative for the warm welcome and comments of support for both Jet’s blog and all of my Kitchen Counselor writing.

Share with (Miss Susan didn’t tell us how many… since she listed six, we will do the same) six other blogs.  We’re sharing with some newer friends.

  1. Clowie’s Corner – We have already learned so much from Clowie.  Transferred from England to Spain, I’m practicing my Spanish with Clowie and the humans are swapping food info!
  2. You Did What With Your Weiner –  We love (and sometimes have pangs of envy) all the adventures Chester and Gretel share.  They have impeccable (vocab builder) fashion sense, attend parties, hike in gorgeous locations and dine at only the best dog shops.
  3. Through the Eyes of Tweedles –  Tweedles published two books and writes with a poetic flare.
  4. Saved by Dogs – Jenny, Gracie and Lil’s human writes, “This is a space for those whose lives would not be complete without their companion dog, or who have had or look forward to having a special dog friend in their life.”  They have felines, too, just like us!
  5. Texas, A Cat in NY – We’ve known this feline awhile, however, he inspired us of late because he handled the traveling of his humans with class and dignity.
  6. Bringing up Bella –  We admire her human’s description of the blog, “Bella is both fearful and reactive and I hope these stories will highlight her amazing resilience, joy and growth as well as my own learning curve as her guide through this life’s journey.”

Another great, very inspiring, day.

Sunshine Thursday – Mango Style

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Boy are we LATE!  Yup, my blogosphere little sister, Poppy, from Fluffy Popcorn bestowed the Sunshine award on her Big Bro a few weeks ago  and what happened??? Life!  Since we’ve focused on mangoes this week, and the sun shines brightly on our mango tree as Mom and I prepare this post, we will catch up and gratefully accept the award and pass it on.  Oh, you know what’s the funniest?  Poppy and I bestowed the same award to each other on the same day!  Goes to show you even virtual siblings have that “sibling intuition!”

Poppy and her Mommy write the most joyous blog, their sunny hue of the world becomes evident upon your first reading.  They creatively comment, post wonderful videos, construct great photos with and for their furiends and share their infectious positivism. (vocab builder)  Look what Poppy and her Mom made for us to celebrate our awards…

So here are the rules:

Answer the questions that come with it.  Since I’m a kind brother in my own home, too, I pass the question portion on to JJ.  If you want to see my answers from last time, go here.

Pass it along to 10 people and let them know they have received it..

Here are the questions and JJ’s answers:

  • Favorite number: 14, the day Mom, Rachel, Jet, and Pluffy adopted me.
  • Favorite Non-alcoholic drink:  Water – Mom thinks I need etiquette (vocab builder) lessons because I slurp and drip!.
  • Facebook or Twitter: Mom can’t keep up with my energy level now; she can’t imagine adding either of these activities to my already busy schedule..
  • My Passion: Fetching, chewing, and counter surfing (only as a means to see what Mom’s up to and to let her know I’m ready and willing to participate!).
  • Favorite pattern: The pattern my kibbles takes as I scarf it down in milliseconds..
  • Favorite Day of the Week:  Any day I spend more time with humans!.
  • Favorite Flower:  hmmmm…. Mom might need to help me with this… Jetty enjoys sniffing flowers more than I do… I will say pink hibiscus and hot pink bougainvillea because they match my accessory color!

We’re going to pass on the award to newer pals we’ve been commenting with…

  • Urban Hounds – Miss Kate and the hounds visit wonderful places and… Miss Kate likes foodie stuff like Mom!
  • Dogs n Pawz – for their sunny disposition and good sportsmanship during the NBA finals.
  • Long Life Cats and Dogs – Miss Susan burst on the scene recently and already thinks in posts like the rest of us.  She shares great stories, information and musings from South Africa.
  • Paws to Talk – Follow the lives of Bella and Didi, standard poodles who are smart and witty.
  • My Life with Flyball Dogs – We love following the adventures of Koira and Pallo.  Their human writes great comments on their behalf!
  • Raising Daisy – Little Miss Havachon writes really enteraining posts.
  • It’s a Weinerful Life – These human Moms know how to provide adventures for their doxies and chihuaha, Sally Ann, Luna and Charlie.
  • Joke Puppy – We usually stop by on Saturdays for a visit.  Joke puppy always leaves us with a smile on our faces.
  • My GBGV Life – You MUST check out Emma’s Tasty Tuesday posts, she’s a riot, reminiscent of Julia Child!
  • House Full of Dogs – Angel, a 3 year old Pomeranian, and Chaos, a 3 year old Chihuaha, share their adventures.

Another great sunny day!
