Ocearch – Making Shark Tracks

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Mom and I watched CNN this morning while she drank her protein shake breakfast.  We caught a super cool piece on this organization called OCEARCH.  They catch, tag and release great white sharks at sea and track them to help study the great white life cycle.

In September, they found a large, 3,500 lb mature female off Cape Cod.  They named her Mary Lee after the organization’s founder’s Mom!  Yesterday, the tracker found her close to the shore off Jacksonville, Florida so they called the police to advise them.  Proper beach notices went out keeping the humans safe and Mary Lee safe, too!

Another great, jaws kind of day!

Let ‘Em Have It, We’re So Scared!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Last night, we met Miss Mary Ann and Dixie at the very end of their walk and the middle of ours.  Miss Mary Ann is an amateur meteorologist and told Mom to expect BIG storms last night.  She showed Mom the weather map from her snazzy phone.  She and Mom hoped the booms and streaky lights would not bother us too much.

Around 2:00 a.m. ish… the sky did this thingie called, “open up”,  booms, streaky lights, raining “cats and dogs!”  (What a silly human saying.) etc… Luckily for Mom, a new blue tarp sits on the roof above the kitchen, so for a change, we did not have puddles and plaster to greet us this morning.  I digress.

At the sight of each streaky light, JJ barked her Kathleen Turner pitched bark, letting those streaky lights know who’s boss.  Then she paced in no particular pattern all over Mom’s bed… and Mom, her innards shaking like a live wire.

If you’ve read my posts for a while, you know how I suffer with loud noises.  I tried JJ’s new barking technique, however returned to my pawing up the wall, knocking everything off Mom’s side table, trying to find my safe place etc…

Mom, good sport that she is, tried to drown out the noise with SportsCenter.  (She figured she could catch up on NBA Playoff results… except they talked too much about baseball.)  Then she tried CNN, in case we needed to catch up on world events.  (We were not impressed.) Mom tried to pet JJ into a calmer state, (no luck).  Finally, at some point, we all passed out.

This is going to be a LONG rainy season…

Another great, until today’s thunder storms, day.

The Hey, It’s Jet Here Poll

Hey, It’s Jet Here.

I, Jet, student of politics at Scooby Doo Academy, selected taking a poll for my class project.  When I watch the news most mornings after my breakfast, waiting for Mom to hurry up and eat hers, those humans on TV mention lots of polls.  They use words like: Gallup, CNN,NYT,USAToday, ABC, CBS Tribune/WGN TV etc… so I figured, why not add a Hey, It’s Jet Here poll?

Lately, the political tracking of the Republican candidates hogs TV coverage week after week.  You humans take polls before the voting, during the voting, after the voting, don’t you guys get tired?  To maintain my integrity, I will remind you that I previously and continue to endorse Boozer for president.

I decided to track poles themselves with the following criteria:

  • How many poles exist on my weekend morning route? (Other routes will be added in the future.)
  • What type of pole is it?
  • What material did the humans use in construction?

I present to you… the results:

  • 19 poles in total.
  • 15 telephone poles, 4 traffic light poles.
  • 15 wooden poles, 4 metal poles.

Uh Jet?  Yes Mom.  Little problem.  What’s the problem Mom?  Polls and Poles are totally different.  Polls record opinions or votes whereas poles are  long, slender, rounded pieces of wood or metal with one end usually in the ground.  Poles support other items like wires, electrical circuitry, or tents.

Hmpf.  Mooommm, I know that, I wanted to see if you were paying attention!  Really Jet?  If you say so…

Another great day of tabulations.

Mom Messed Up

Hey, It’s Jet Here.

Yesterday, for the first time, Mom disappointed me.  I’ll chalk it up to an honest oversight, because I know how much she loved my sister and how much she loves me.  In fact, from what I’ve observed, she loves all K-9s.  Here’s what happened.

We had our usual great day, as you read in my Spa Day post.  We took an extra long nap, a nice walk, Mom brushed me while I dozed in the evening, you get the picture.  She did this TIVO thing for one of her favorite shows, NOT ON ANIMAL PLANET (not that I’m judging her), called Extreme Makeover Home Edition.  They asked humans to call in to support the humans who serve (d) our great country.  She went on line instead to this Rise and Honor place and gave as much money as she could.  So far, so good.  Except… that was IT.

Now Mom knows better.  She and my sister, Koko, were a therapy dog

team with Therapy Dogs, Inc. for 4 ½ years at Miami Children’s Hospital and 1 year at S. Miami Hospital.  She knows about Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dogs International.  So many of my fellow K-9s serve humans in the military as well as after the humans come home.

Yesterday, on 11/11/11, our post should have focused on my K-9 brethren that help active duty military personnel and returning veterans.  Over twenty-eight groups help veterans and always need more funding.  (We eat a lot of food learning how to help you know.)  Mom’s including a link so you can read about many groups and how they help.   Mom told me that CNN published an article and Hallmark (again… NOT ANIMAL PLANET, just saying…) had a program on last night honoring military K-9s.   If you have a little extra biscuit money, please consider helping those groups, too.

Jet, I deeply apologize for my error.  You bring such an important subject to light, thank you.  I certainly did not mean to overlook your brethren and their incredible accomplishments and contributions to our active military and our veterans.  I honor their service with equal measure and will donate an equal amount to a group you and I select together.   I accept your apology Mom.

Another great and conflict resolved day.
