Merry Newfmas and Happy Houndlidays!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Pet-Blogger-Gift-Exchange1When we read about Honey’s Pet Blogger’s Gift Exchange, we just knew we had to participate.  We emailed the fetching Honey and Miss Pamela and then… we found out our secret match, our pals at Newf and Hound!

Here are the rules:

  1. Share encouragement and compliments – Easy Peasy!
  2. Link up here – No problem!
  3. Share on any and all social media – Hmpf… as you know, Mom limits me to blog only!

When we first met long haired dachshunds, Ernie, Hazel and Nooner, we got a kick out of the fact that they shared their forever home with Foyle the Newfoundland!  You can read how that all came about here.  You know how Mom feels about fluffy fur, so, we were hooked right away.  Furthermore, they live in Mom’s favorite area of the U.S., San Francisco.

ernie

We love the diversity of subject matter, ranging from:

  • Their hiking adventures – you have to see the three petite Doxies keeping up with Foyle!
  • dachshund dressBucket Babe – Fashion.  Little Miss Fashion Plate ogled (VBP – Vocab Builder Project) the dachshund dress and thought a fall, auburn colored golden retriever pattern would look lovely, too!
  • DJ Track and Hound – they share playlists for different activities.
  • Foyle Fridays.
  • Nooner News.
  • 2012-12-17 Photo Transfer_5Crafts – This week’s project showed how to put the crew on wooden coasters with Mod Podge!
  • Training and Techniques – Check out the post where Foyle chases a coconut!
  • Treats and Food – we both posted reviews of chicken jerky on the same day! Great minds…
  • Letterpress posts show you how to make or where to purchase a variety of pressed prints or die cut items.
  • 6a0105358f3c48970b0134862ca249970c-500wiLandscape Design posts might discuss sustainable outdoor doghouses, planting a front yard garden or a water trough garden.  This topic appeals to our Kitchen K9 side as does the Treats and Food category!
  • One of our favorite categories carries the name – Make This Buy That.  No judgement, simply two options with links to resources.  We especially enjoyed the Raised Dog Feeder  and the Raised Dog Bed.  Mom would like to know if a handy manly-man arrives with the instructions!

We have to find out whether the NewfandHound’s human is affiliated with Etsy or simply enjoys viewing Etsy sites, because we read lots of Etsy references!  NewfandHound has a modern, clean format which we appreciate.  The tone of the writing stays modern too. (Their tag line is “We are 4 modern dogs living in a modern world! Join us on our adventures!” after all!) We would add the adjectives informative, creative, interesting, playful, and positive with gorgeous photos to boot!

Visit NewfandHound to see what Ernie, Hazel, Nooner and Foyle are up to.  Wish them a Merry Newfmas and Happy Houndlidays and let them know that Jetty sent ya!

Another great NewfandHound day!

A+ Customer Service

Hey It’s Jet Here.

crawlbadge1Happy Hannukah for those who will celebrate at sundown.  We’re participating in the Channukah Crawl this year, whoo hoo!  Visit our feline friends, Ateret, Livia and Abbi and Miss Stephanie today over at Musings of a Cat Lady to learn about the Festival of Lights.  Tomorrow,  visit Gromek the Cat, for more cool Hannukah (I know, I spell it differently!) info.

top of leash 2You won’t believe what EZYDog did for Little Miss What Happened to My New Leash.  Because of a series of rather serious stuff landing atop Mom’s never ending “To-Do” list over the last year, she never took proactive steps to let Ms. EZYDog know that Little Miss Welcome to Casa Jet’s swanky pink camo Mutley leash shredded in two places within the first two to three weeks of usage.

where the 2 foot section connects with the 4 foot sectionFINALLY, Mom got it together and decided to deal with it over the Thanksgiving long weekend.  She wanted to call Ms. EZYDog, however, that option was not available.  Mom hmpfed a little.  She wrote the required email (she politely made her points) and poof… almost instantly she received a response from Mr. Brady.

Mr. Brady asked for some data and photos.  Mom took them speedy quick and sent them.  She showed Mr. Brady the difference from her interpretation of normal wear and tear and the original unraveling/shredding.  She wrote that she LOVED the handle, the color, the concept (Mom bought the extension) and explained a few reasons for her inappropriate delay in communication.

Mr. Brady acknowledged Mom’s photos and said he would replace the leash.  Immediately, Mom began bragging to everyone she encountered how well EZYDog handled our situation.  Mom told Mr. Brady she would accept the credit under the following conditions:

  • Mom and Mr. Brady would decide what would be the right items for JJ…
  • Mom would pay the difference if there was any…
  • Mom would write (well actually I would dictate, she would transcribe) a review for my blog…
  • Mom would write a review on the EZYDog site. (She told Mr. Brady she may need technical guidance.)

5Mom shared with Mr. Brady, that one of our blogpals had written a post on the harness with chest plate and would he recommend that for Little Miss I Learned to Pull from My Brother.  He guided Mom through her options and told Mom how to measure Little Miss Svelte (VBP – vocab builder project) for her harness.  Mom said it might take her a few days to get that done.  Mr. Brady said he input a credit for Mom and set up and ID and password.

Mom ordered Monday and the package arrived Thursday.  Mom unwrapped it today when she returned from the biscuit earning place and Little Miss Flaunt Her Pink Camo wore most of it tonight.  (more on that later…)

Follow Up Friday – Gratitude Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Before we begin, here’s last year’s Black Friday post!

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and recently turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  Check out her Dogs of Blogville Calendar and vote!  Proceeds from the upcoming sale will help 2 of our fellow bloggers hurt badly by Superstorm Sandy.

Saturday – A View from Above

After reading about the Puffster returning to drink from the “fountain of fresh water” otherwise known as Mom’s bathroom sink, many of you expressed your understanding and experiences when a loved one Crosses Over the Rainbow Bridge.  You see, ever since our Sweet Fluffy crossed in August, Puffy had not ascended (VBP – vocab builder project) to Mom’s sink, one of the places he and Fluffy visited together many times daily.

Thanks for the compliments on my wrestling move (the Disappearing Jetty), Little Miss Chewminator and I seem equally matched, I have more brawn, she has more strategic moves!  In the end, neither of us “win”, we enjoy the play.

Black & White Sunday – Greased Lightening

When I posted about the appearance of my racing stripes which ultimately led Dr. Schaffer to determine I have hypothyroidism, a few of you asked to see the racing stripes Mom described in the post.  Since my coloring fits into the theme of the Sunday Blog hop, she tried to highlight each stripe on each of my front paws.  Oh did you guys (Mom’s NJ term of endearment) get a kick out of them!  You also enjoyed Mom’s reference to the car, Greased Lightening, from the play/movie GREASE.

Mischief Monday – Keyboard Woes

I personally want to express my gratitude for your caring and creative suggestions regarding Mom’s now wacky keyboard issues.  The poor woman is sprouting grey hairs by the millisecond!  Now, I cannot report any scientific evidence, however, I’m happy to share that since all of you sent your positive vibes our way… the keyboard has played nice for two whole days!!!

Tasty Tuesday – Green Cigars

Lots of positive feedback on Mom’s recipe brought big smiles to her face. JJ and I, Mom’s faithful Kitchen K-9s, continue to surprise and delight you with our ambitious palates!  You enjoyed seeing us chomp on our collard green stems.  A few humans and a few fellow K9s thought they might like to try their respective parts of the veggie!  My turtle friends at Underneath the Shell, had a great idea; they love the leaves and we love the stems so why not share?!

Wordless Wednesday – Turkey: The Money Shot

Oh we fooled some of you who thought that was me patiently waiting? for a proper serving of the yummy bird.  Nope, Mom had NO intention of cooking a turkey since she had plans to ABANDON Casa Jet for Thanksgiving dinner.  Hmpf.  She enjoyed turkey at Miss Mary Ann’s house where my friend, Dixie, had a proper seat at the table.  Double Hmpf.  Thank goodness Miss Mary Ann loves us enough to send a turkey tidbit doggie K9 bag home with Mom.  Considering Mom fed us 2.5 hours late for dinner, sharing the tidbits with us after setting her keys down was the LEAST she could do.  Ah, heck, we loved the tidbits, loved Mom for giving them to us, enjoyed our dinner, had a breezy constitutional and a swell evening with Mom afterward!

Thankful Thursday – Unexpected Appreciation

Lots of you expressed interest and excitement about Snoopy’s upcoming book which Mom recently edited.  Don’t forget to place it on your holiday lists; a portion of the proceeds will go to therapy dogs.

You agreed with Mom and I that Snoopy and his Mum sent such a thoughtful gift.  You also resonated (VBP) with Mom’s perspective on gratitude.

Another great gratitude filled FUF day.

Thankful Thursday – Unexpected Appreciation

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!  May your day be filled with family, friends, gratitude, appreciation, joy and abundance.  My human sister is out of town this year.  She and Mom chatted last night.  Rachel initiated a discussion about expressing gratitude and appreciation daily, not just on one day.  Mom beamed with pride on her side of the phone!

So, you may recall that Mom edited Snoopy’s upcoming  Mischief Master Class Book recently.  Snoopy and his Mum graciously showed their appreciation in a post.  When Mom read the post to us, you could tell she felt grateful in her heart because her face had a special kind of smile on it.

Well, in addition to the post, on the Sunday Mom finished her editing… the doorbell rang as Mom was cooking dinner.  When she went to the door, a delivery person stood there with a gift.

Unexpected appreciation fills the recipient with a layered type of gratitude.  For Mom, the first layer was the excitement of receiving a gift.  Then, after reading the card, she felt acknowledged (VBP – vocab builder project) for her contribution to help make Snoopy’s project a great success.  She felt that Snoopy and his Mum received her efforts as intended – from her heart.

You know, sharing such a personal project with another human takes courage, faith, and trust.  Mom’s grateful Snoopy and his Mum took the leap of faith, allowing Mom to read and edit their wonderful project.  (She will have another read through after our morning constitutional, in about an hour!)

Another great unexpected appreciation day.

Follow Up Friday – Question Mark Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and recently turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  We loved co-hosting last week, thanks  for the invitation.

Before we begin, we wanted to let you know that we decided to donate to help the animals challenged by Superstorm Sandy through Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.  We chose Best Friends, because in Mom’s experience, they walk the talk.  She’s followed them for about 15 years now and even took my human sister there to volunteer about 7 years ago.  We will also participate in some way with Heart Like a Dog’s “Dogs of Blogville” calendar contest, which will send help to a blogpal in need.

Saturday Pet Bloggers Hop – Blogiversary – Where did the Time Go?

Boy oh boy, how kind, generous and supportive you were, acknowledging our first year of blogging.  Some of you even thought Mom made the cake!  (not so… just a photo from Google Images!!)  We cannot express our appreciation of your open arms/paws.

Black & White Sunday – A Daylight Savings Time Riddle?

A resounding (VBP – vocab builder project) cheer for all of our blogpals who answered correctly!  I’m improving… I went from 4:10 to 4:38 to 4:43 to 6:00 (long election night walk and tv night!) to 5:12 to 5:20!  Our favorite comment suggested I had a black rug on top of me from the back of my head to my tail.  We responded that I would NEVER wear a toupee, I sprout naturally gorgeous black fluff!

Mischief Monday – Guess Who Came to Dinner?

Simba of course!  Most of you feel he arrived in time for Mom’s yummy cooking.  While true, (and Mom says thanks by the way), we believe he knows we will welcome him when he escapes, keep him safe, (give him some tidbits), and play with him until his family arrives.  Several of you wanted to join us for dinner as well… Mom says… ANYTIME!

Tasty Tuesday – Who likes Fennel?

Surprisingly, Mom’s faithful Kitchen K9s do!  Oh yes, we got your attention on this one.  Lots of comments expressed curiosity and surprise about fennel in general and K9s eating it specifically!  Our pack mate Neve and Miss Beverly wrote in to share how much Neve enjoys thinly sliced fennel, while Miss Beverly prefers her fennel roasted!

Oh, Miss Wendy thought we were wearing coats, actually we had our Halloween costumes on because … it was HALLOWEEN!

Wordless Wednesday – Who needed a break from the election?

EVERYONE!!!  So glad you enjoyed the comic relief of Dudley’s video as much as we did; thanks to Mollie for sending in a comment describing how to post videos for Mom… Also, Little Miss Professional Paw Shaker has stayed grounded so far after winning her seat on the Happy, Happy commission!

Thankful Thursday – Who needs to Apologize?

MOM!  Yup, Mom went ROGUE, adlibbing a title I DID NOT APPROVE and scared a bunch of my blogpals to bits! Sorry, Mea Culpa etc… I will keep a shorter leash on her transcribing activities.  All are healthy at Casa Jet.

Glad we thought to share nicknames for seven inhabitants of Casa Jetty as part of our “Seven Things About Me” Award Procedure.  Now you have the inside scoop!  Gratitude again to our four pals who bestowed the award on us.

Another great question mark week.

Mischief Monday: Guess Who Came for Dinner?

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Last week, I was hanging out in the kitchen watching Mom begin preparing her “leftover mix” dinner, while Little Miss “I Must Take Recipe Notes” watched more closely.

Out of the corner of her eye, Mom saw a swish of golden fur outside the kitchen window.  Her first response – double check to see that Little Miss Golden Girl was in the kitchen and that Mom was not experiencing double vision!  Confident that her eyesight was not playing tricks on her, (did I tell you that Mom failed the eye test at the driver’s license bureau this past spring?  Yup, went in and failed… had no idea she needed glasses, poor thing! Whoops, I digressed again…) she properly looked out the window.

Our buddy, Simba, wagging so hard he could have powered our refrigerator for a day, looked at Mom, patiently waiting for his invitation to come in.  Mom opened the sliding door and Simba bounded in for a grand entrance befitting another happy, happy golden!  We all greeted him enthusiastically and Mom wondered how long he had been “at large” because he smelled slightly swampy! (Which means we thought he might have already had a little swim in the canal!)

Anywhoo, Mom immediately texted his human big sister, Joanna, to see what she wanted us to do.  Turns out, Joanna now lives on campus at the University of Miami and was in the middle of a class!  She said she would drive over when class let out.  Mom replied no worries, Simba could join us for dinner and our evening constitutional.

Simba and JJ both felt the need to carefully scrutinize (VBP – vocab building project) Mom’s technique.  I thought we should frolick before dinner, especially since JJ and I already finished our dinner.  Mom tossed tidbits of sweet red pepper and carrots to all three of us while she assembled her dish.

Miss Joanna arrived about an hour later, just as we prepared to leave the house for our walk.  She shared that no one at her house (4 doors down) knew Simba had flown the coop and that, since he is HER dog, it was HER responsibility to deal with the situation.  Mom politely kept her thoughts to herself, with the exception of gently reminding Miss Joanna that she worried about Simba’s girth.  Mom mentioned that he heartily enjoyed our veggies (she was surprised!) and that we eat ½ as much kibble each day.  No judgment, just loving concern, because Simba is a super sweet, fun loving dude and we want him to stay healthy.

Another great dinner with friends, day.

Mischief Monday: We Thought We Saw A Poody Cat!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Last Tuesday night, Mom took JJ out for last potty around 11:30 p.m.  I, meteorologist extraordinaire, deduced a disturbance somewhere in the county which prohibited my attendance with the ladies.  Usually, JJ quickly does her last potty somewhere on the front lawn, the ladies 180 it back into the garage and that’s that.

Instead, JJ did her Little Miss Watch Me Point, Set, and Contemplate Retrieving like a textbook Irish Setter who has trained for years.  Startled and curious, Mom pointed and set herself right beside JJ to see what caught her attention.  Standing beneath Mr. Gil’s flood light directly across the street, in linear silhouette was a… feline?

Fox in author Dave Barry’s home. (about 10 min. from us!)

Except… Mom whispered to JJ that felines do not have pointy noses and bushy tails.  Huh? Mom’s lived at Casa Jet for 20 years and never saw a critter like, like what? A fox?  We live in suburbia!   Mom asked JJ if we have foxes in the Tropics.  JJ, too focused on said “fox”, neglected to answer.  They stood still for a good 5-10 minutes, until the fox must have smelled them, because it ran/scampered across the street to Miss Denise’s backyard.  As it scampered, Mom tried to get a better visual thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her.  The creature made interesting, non-feline sounds along the way.

The next day, Mom asked Miss Mary at work if we have foxes here.  She wasn’t sure. Mom asked Miss Mary Ann, Miss Beverly and finally on Wednesday evening, my Madrina (Godmother in Spanish), said yes we do.  She had a family of foxes at the house she just moved from.  Mom then hit the internet.

Apparently, Florida hosts primarily two varieties: the red fox and the grey fox.

Mom thinks the one they saw resembled the grey fox photo; except more petite… a kit perhaps?

Since Miss Mary Ann always names creatures creatively, we’re going to request a name for our new neighbor tomorrow.

Another great, foxy mischief day.

Mischief Monday – Buddy’s (Mis)Adventure Pt. II

Hey It’s Jet Here.

I promised those of you who commented last Monday a sequel.  Here it is:

So, you recall Buddy’s Saturday night mischief which Mom found on Sunday morning.

Well, when she went to tuck Buddy in around 10:00 p.m. ish Sunday night, he met her at the metal gate.  Mom had a moment of panic, wondering whether she properly shut the lanai screen door.  Yup, she did.  How did she conclude this?  Because the Budmeister ripped a square of screening beside the door and let himself out.  Mom figured she would take Buddy for a late night tank emptying, put him in the house and deal with the screening Monday.

Miss Cindy already knew about the first mischief and suggested that Mom pull the blinds to one side of the kitchen.  A perfectly logical suggestion.  Mom augmented (VBP – vocab builder project) the suggestion and used the trash can to block Buddy’s access even more.

Monday morning… Mischief Day itself… Mom entered the lanai, then Buddy’s house and found… (oh, I must preface (VBP) this by saying Mom did NOT take her phone, hence no pictures):

  • The kitchen floor totally strewn (VBP) with plastic bag shredded spaghetti strands.  Overnight, Buddy, knocked over the trash can, got the metal wire out of the lid, pulled out the huge role of plastic bags at the bottom and SHREDDED! (imagine shreds like in the picture all over the floor!)
  • The two small mats that Miss Cindy must use to stand on when cooking… shredded.
  • Mom could not find a broom or dustpan, so she sat on the floor and cleaned by hand.
  • Several more blinds chewed.
  • For some reason, Mom went into the adjacent (VBP – we’re on a roll today!) living room and the Budman pulled down and chewed the cloth levelors as well!

DUDE!

Mom worried that Buddy might rip down more screening and escape, so, she brought him home to Casa Jet.  Luckily, Mom had the day off from the biscuit earning place, so, she could monitor destructo-pup!  We got along famously… except… the little dude NEVER STOPS MOVING.

I resisted the evening constitutional (on account of unforeseen weather), so, Mom walked Buddy and JJ with Miss Mary Ann, Dixie, Neve and Miss Beverly.  Of course, she shared his mischief.  Mom left a preparatory text for Miss Cindy.  When Miss Cindy came over to fetch the little angel, he was FINALLY fast asleep … and… he SNORES!

Miss Cindy, wowee wow wow, she’s super laid back.  She apologized to Mom, who apologized to her… and all seemed ok.

Another MAJOR mischief day, a la Buddy the Beagle.

Buddy-Sitting

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Yesterday, we left you with a teaser… did you guess Buddy the Beagle?  Well, you see, on Tuesday, Mom, Miss Mary Ann, JJ, Dixie and I met up with Miss Cindy and Buddy.  Miss Cindy asked the ladies if they knew of a good kennel, because their K9 sitter was away.  Mom chirped right in, “I K9 sit.”  Miss Cindy and Mom made a quick arrangement.  Mom visited Buddy’s house to make sure she knew all of Buddy’s preferences and stuff.

Before I continue, we have another teaser… we have been working on something with two anipals, can you guess who?  Ok, back to Buddy!

Remember, Mom’s familiar with retrievers, the Beagle heritage is quite new to her.  The following Beagle/Buddy behaviors have stood out so far:

  • Buddy loves to snuggle if Mom sits on the floor with him.
  • Unlike JJ and me, Buddy does NOT inhale his food.  He politely visits with Mom and then after about 10 minutes civilly eats his kibble.
  • Whereas JJ and I slurp water as if we spent the last three days traipsing (VBP – vocab builder project) across the Sahara, Buddy takes a few swigs and moves on.
  • Buddy only requires a lightweight leash, unlike our secure, heavy duty, yet fashionable varieties.
  • See lizard/gecko – will chase, catch and deliver!  Ewwwww!
  • NEVER stops moving… the dude needs to chillax a little! Mom cannot capture his face clearly to show you.
  • Mom says his tail moves like a metronome when they walk.
  • He makes a funny grunting noise… at first, Mom thought he was choking, then she thought he was wheezing, then she realized he was happy.
  • Of course, the beagle bay differs from our retriever barking!

Mom felt so sad looking at Buddy’s face on both night one and night two, so she brought him home for a sleepover!  We all blended well.  Buddy zipped through the house investigating everything.  Mom did not think he could jump up on the bed.  W-R-O-N-G!  He looked like he had springs attached to his paws like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh!  Finally, drained of energy, Mom, JJ, and Buddy fell asleep on her bed while I monitored the bedroom from a few different vantage (VBP) points.

Another great Buddy, day.

Mischief Monday: Mischief for a Good Cause

Hey It’s Jet Here.

This HAS to stay between us, ok?

For those who read our weekend posts, you know that Mom K9 sat for Austin again.  Well, you may or may not recall that his humans keep reminding Mom that Austin doesn’t do well with other dogs.  They cautioned her to take care if they see a K9 while walking in the neighborhood.

This past Saturday, Mom took Austin for a morning constitutional.  At the end of the first block, they saw a woman with a dog approaching perpendicularly.  Mom had Austin sit and pay attention to her.  The woman and the dog approached Mom and Austin.  From a bit away, the ladies began a conversation.

  • Mom:  Hi, this is Austin.  I’m having him practice sitting while other dogs pass.
  • Woman:  Hi, I think I’ve seen him before.
  • Mom:  Yes, he lives down the street.
  • Woman: Me too. (turns out 3 houses away!)

The two pairs come closer and Mom explains that she’s K9 sitting, that she’s been told Austin has trouble with other K9s, however she thinks he’s simply uneducated.  Would it be ok to meet the woman’s dog?

  • Mom:  My name is Lori.
  • Woman:  My name is Janet and this is Sparkle.

At first Austin seemed unsure, as did Sparkle, but Mom and Miss Janet felt relaxed and gave it a go.  Austin politely sniffed Sparkle and vice versa.  The ladies kept speaking, exchanging info about the dogs, Koko, Puffy, Fluffy, JJ and me, their careers, their families, the area, and on and on as ladies often do.  (Jetty!) Sorry Mom, but, you ladies DO speak a lot!

Before they know it, they realized that the two dogs have chilled out in the middle of the street!  They decided to try walking as a pack, which worked beautifully.  They tried to make a date for Sunday morning, however, Miss Janet had plans.

Mom told Austin how proud she was, how she knew he could do it, how she couldn’t wait to have him walk with JJ in the future, (and then me, as both Austin and I are Alpha males).  She gave him tons of lovies, played rope, rubbed his belly, kissed his nose, all the while telling him how great he did!  Score one for Good Cause Mischief!

Another great progress day.
