Supporting Shelter Month – Tropical Style

Hey It’s Jet Here.

We wanted to do our part to support Shelter month by sharing two events in our area.  Next Friday night, PetSmart Charities presents: Midnight to Midnight Mega Pet Adoption Event.   How cool is that!  A puppy/kitten kickoff at Midnight on Friday should start the event off adorably!  Kids’ activities and food trucks will round out the format.  The ASPCA,  Humane Society of Greater Miami, Miami-Dade County Animal Services (This is where Golden Rescue South Florida Found me and JJ!) , and the Cat Network will participate.  (We adopted Puffy and Fluffy from Cat Network, many moons ago, btw!)

I’m slightly offended that no one called ‘ol Jetty boy to pose for the poster!

Now, if that’s not enough, Miss Mary Ann forwarded the following photo to Mom in a text.

Fireman and Rescues Rocking the Runway?  Ladies, ladies, stand back!  Again, fairly flummoxed (VBP – vocab building project) that I, Jetty the Gentleman, did not hear the phone ring asking me to model for the poster. I can show my abs:

Friends Forever, the group hosting the event, is the group my sweet golden sister, Koko, came from.

Whether you live in the tropics or elsewhere, please support shelter month.  Koko, Fluffy (OTRB), Puffy, JJ and I all found our forever families through shelter adoption.  We deeply appreciate all of the humans who help K9s and felines like us find their own forever families.  We acknowledge your dedication, love and support and share it back tenfold!

Another great shelter events day in the tropics.

Thanks to Life With DogsConfessions of the Plume and Two Little Cavaliers for hosting the Saturday Blog Hop.

Follow Up Friday: Neve’s Birthday Stretch Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and recently turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  Congrats!

Saturday: A Little Afternoon Rest

Mom captured a few pics of JJ and I taking an afternoon siesta.  Of course, Little Miss Fastidious (VBP – vocab building project) had to complete her pedi before resting.  So many of you understood the need for the fuchsia cheetah sheet; yes, I’m secure in my manly man-ness to rock pink!

Sunday: Neve’s Birthday in Black and White

Gotta love my blogpals!  You so graciously sent in bowlfuls of birthday wishes for my pack pal.  Miss Beverly appreciated your comments as well.  Because of the color saturation choice, a few of you thought the pasta sauce Mr. Giovanni and Neve hovered over was a cake!!!  Mom goofed and shared that Neve celebrated turning 6, when in fact she turned lucky 7!

Mischief Monday:  Destruct-O-Pup

We promised a mighty juicy follow up to our pack pal, Buddy’s, MM post the week before and you agreed that we did not disappoint.  Many humans wrote humorous comments as well as understanding the underlying cause of Buddy’s wave of mischief:  he probably was scared and lonely.  Thank goodness Buddy’s human parents are so laid back; they took his misadventures in stride.

Tasty Tuesday:  Plums Two Ways

We look forward to this post, since we get to share tidbits in preparation!  As Mom’s faithful Kitchen K9s, we appreciate your positive feedback.  Lots of readers learned that you can roast plums.  Mom provided a step-by-step link for the recipe to show you the process she followed when she prepared the dish for her UMiami Diabetic Peer Support Group.

Wordless Wednesday: Neve’s Birthday Stretch

Mom firmly believes in celebrating birthdays from the weekend prior to the weekend after.  We featured Neve getting a “lift” so she could enjoy water out of our elevated bowls!

Thankful Thursday: Recovery & More Catching Up

FINALLY, a heaven sent visit from Mr. Ron and Mom’s computer issues have abated (VBP) for the most part… sure she lost her calendar with her blog radio guest schedules for the next 6 weeks, sure she can’t exactly use her prior emails, (she can peak but cannot open, copy, respond to, etc…) but… she can open Outlook and move forward.  Baby steps!

We graciously accepted two sweet awards from our pals Clowie and Misaki.  Mom only allowed us one cupcake each; we’re going to request another today and the next day and the next day until they disappear!  We agree with several readers that the best part of the award process is learning more about our blogpals.

Another great, birthday sweet week!

Thankful Thursday: Recovery & More Catching Up

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Guess what?  On Monday afternoon, with no prior warning, the doorbell rang at Casa Jet and standing there, sick as a K9, was… MR. RON.

Offering endless tissues and tea (he ignored Mom’s suggestion and requested ice water), Mom ushered him into the office and the seat of honor, in front our mature computer.  After one and a half hours, which included spyware removal, cleaning up sneaky alien invader stuff in drive C, creating a new inbox, showing Mom for the umpteenth time how to back up on her external hard drive, downloading almost 2,000 emails, setting up Mom’s Kitchen Counselor email to go into the new inbox along with her personal email, Mom’s machine was HEALED!  Hallelujah!  Mom then had to review 2,000 emails, which did not seem to bother her, even though it took a while.

Sweet Rewards:

Keeping Mom’s promise of catching up, we humbly accept two awards this week:

Clowie, our fetching friend in Spain, graciously bestowed this award on us:

As you can imagine, with our job as Mom’s faithful Kitchen K9s, we especially love the epicurean (VBP-vocab building project) nature of this award.  Plus, how cute are the decorations!  With that said, the rules are few:

  1. Thank the gracious giver of award: check.
  2. Pass on said award as you see fit.

We thought since this award is food related, we would highlight a bunch of our Tasty Tuesday foodie pals!

Misaki, our good pal in the UK generously bestowed another sweet award on us:

Mom loves rainbows, so the cupcakes really made her smile.  The rules:

Give credit to the blog which nominated you: check

  1. Answer the “Super Sweet” Questions:  will do below…
  2. Pass award on to a baker’s dozen: would love to!

Questions:  Mom’s going to answer 1-4, I’ll take 5.

  1. Cookies or cake? Cookies for sure.
  2. Chocolate or vanilla? Generally chocolate, however, I prefer vanilla based ice cream with chocolate stuff in it
  3. What is your favorite sweet treat? Ice cream, any time, any where!
  4. When do you crave sweet things?  Is that a rhetorical (VBP) question?
  5. If you had a sweet nickname what would it be? Marshmallow Fluff (Mom said that’s because people think I’m scary because of my gorgeous black fur, when really, I’m a marshmallow!)

We will pass this on to some of our wonderful blogpals who especially enjoy our Tasty Tuesday posts:

  1. Doggy Style (Doggy’s human made our cucumber dish and posted it!)
  2. Spotty Spotty Polka Dotty
  3. Cats & Co.
  4. Dawson Dogs
  5. Katz Tales
  6. Mollie and Alfie
  7. Dogs and Pawz (Miss Lisa and Mom even had a recipe sharing LONG phone call!)
  8. Suka’s Sayin’ (Suka, sending extra sweetness to make you feel comfy!)
  9. Sankissjuice
  10. Waggfoods
  11. Bassetmomma (sending extra sweetness to make up for the challenging times you’ve been going through with Freddie…)
  12. Brian’s Home Blog
  13. Exhale Joy

Another great so many reasons to be thankful, day!

We just joined the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop hosted by Pepi Smart Dog (formerly by Cokie the Cat!).

Wordless Wednesday – Neve’s Birthday Stretch

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Neve stopped by with Miss Beverly to chat for a few minutes last week.  We played, had a treat, and then… Neve wanted some water.  Mom offered to get Neve her own bowl, however, Miss Beverly said don’t bother …. Oh, by the way, Neve turned lucky 7 not 6, whoops!

Elevator Up!

Should I? Shouldn’t I?

Perfect! Slurp, Slurp, Slurp!

Did you need something? I’m kind of busy here!

Another great sharing our water bowl day!

Thanks to BlogPaws for sponsoring the Wordless Wednesday Hop.

Tasty Tuesday: Plums for Me, Plums for Little Miss Happy Happy

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Thanks to Sugar and Kol for initiating Tasty Tuesdays, today is our twenty-eighth participating post!

Mom decided to make a quick lunch over the weekend and cut a Santa Rosa plum, a Red plum and a banana to mix with her lactose free Green Valley Yogurt.  She threw a few walnuts on, sprinkled nutmeg (I know, you’ve seen a variation of this before!) and that was that.

JJ and I, ever her faithful Kitchen K9s, sat attentively beside her to test (for Quality Control purposes) both plums, the banana and of course the yogurt.  (Mom called me Mr. Yogurt Nose the rest of the day for some reason!)

I’m going to share a savory plum idea and JJ asked to share a sweet idea.

Sticky Grilled Drumsticks with Plum Sauce

  • 12 chicken drumsticks (about 3 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 2 red or purple plums (4 ounces each), pitted and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup hot or sweet red pepper jelly
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup water

Light a grill. Rub the chicken with the canola oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill over moderate heat, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through, about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Add the onion and cook over moderately low heat, stirring, until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the plums and cook over moderately high heat, stirring, until softened and nearly broken down, about 5 minutes. Add the red pepper jelly and mustard and bring to a boil, stirring until the jelly is melted. Carefully transfer the mixture to a food processor. Add the water and puree until smooth. Season the plum sauce with salt and pepper.

Liberally brush the plum sauce all over the chicken and grill, turning the drumsticks occasionally, until they are lightly caramelized, about 5 minutes. Serve the drumsticks with any remaining plum sauce at the table.

Spicy Roasted Plums

Mom made this dish for her UMiami Diabetic Peer Support class.  They LOVED it.

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 6 medium plums
  • 1/2cup unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/3 cup light dairy sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons sliced almonds, toasted

1. Coat a 2-quart rectangular baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Halve and pit plums. Place plums, cut sides up, in prepared baking dish. Stir together pineapple juice, the 2 tablespoons, the cinnamon, cardamom, and cumin. Drizzle over plums.

2. Bake in a 450 degree F oven about 20 minutes or until plums are tender. In a small bowl stir together sour cream and the 1 tablespoon brown sugar. To serve, arrange plums in dessert dishes; top with sour cream mixture and almonds.

Another great plum day.

Mischief Monday – Buddy’s (Mis)Adventure Pt. II

Hey It’s Jet Here.

I promised those of you who commented last Monday a sequel.  Here it is:

So, you recall Buddy’s Saturday night mischief which Mom found on Sunday morning.

Well, when she went to tuck Buddy in around 10:00 p.m. ish Sunday night, he met her at the metal gate.  Mom had a moment of panic, wondering whether she properly shut the lanai screen door.  Yup, she did.  How did she conclude this?  Because the Budmeister ripped a square of screening beside the door and let himself out.  Mom figured she would take Buddy for a late night tank emptying, put him in the house and deal with the screening Monday.

Miss Cindy already knew about the first mischief and suggested that Mom pull the blinds to one side of the kitchen.  A perfectly logical suggestion.  Mom augmented (VBP – vocab builder project) the suggestion and used the trash can to block Buddy’s access even more.

Monday morning… Mischief Day itself… Mom entered the lanai, then Buddy’s house and found… (oh, I must preface (VBP) this by saying Mom did NOT take her phone, hence no pictures):

  • The kitchen floor totally strewn (VBP) with plastic bag shredded spaghetti strands.  Overnight, Buddy, knocked over the trash can, got the metal wire out of the lid, pulled out the huge role of plastic bags at the bottom and SHREDDED! (imagine shreds like in the picture all over the floor!)
  • The two small mats that Miss Cindy must use to stand on when cooking… shredded.
  • Mom could not find a broom or dustpan, so she sat on the floor and cleaned by hand.
  • Several more blinds chewed.
  • For some reason, Mom went into the adjacent (VBP – we’re on a roll today!) living room and the Budman pulled down and chewed the cloth levelors as well!

DUDE!

Mom worried that Buddy might rip down more screening and escape, so, she brought him home to Casa Jet.  Luckily, Mom had the day off from the biscuit earning place, so, she could monitor destructo-pup!  We got along famously… except… the little dude NEVER STOPS MOVING.

I resisted the evening constitutional (on account of unforeseen weather), so, Mom walked Buddy and JJ with Miss Mary Ann, Dixie, Neve and Miss Beverly.  Of course, she shared his mischief.  Mom left a preparatory text for Miss Cindy.  When Miss Cindy came over to fetch the little angel, he was FINALLY fast asleep … and… he SNORES!

Miss Cindy, wowee wow wow, she’s super laid back.  She apologized to Mom, who apologized to her… and all seemed ok.

Another MAJOR mischief day, a la Buddy the Beagle.

Thanks to Alfie’s BlogSnoopy’s Dog BlogMy Brown Newfies and Luna, A Dog’s Life…for sponsoring the hop!  Click on any of the sponsors to join the hop.

Our Sixth Black and White Sunday – Neve Turns 6

Hey, It’s Jet Here.

My packmate, Neve, the maltese/bijon mix who shares her home with Miss Beverly and Mr. Giovanni had a birthday this week.  Happy Birthday my friend!

Another great Happy Birthday Neve day!

Thanks to My Life in Blog Years and Dachshund Nola for hosting the Black and White Sunday blog hop.

A Little Afternoon Rest

Hey It’s Jet here.

Yesterday, Mom had her phone near her bed and snapped a few shots of JJ and I hanging out together.  A note about the sheet colors… the leopard print originally entered the house back when this group called the Cheetah Girls made a few movies on the Disney Channel.  Now Casa Jet uses the cheetah sheets to protect furniture and/or Mom’s comforter.  Mom’s original comforter (20 years ago) had lots of snazzy colors and a bold design paired with the purple sheet from this company called Missoni.

Ok, moving on… JJ insisted on a quick Pedi… and… yes, I was forced to watch her technique.

She worked so diligently (VBP), she pooped herself out!

Pondering questions about the universe…

Keeping Mom’s book warm and protected… (she unearthed it the other day from her bookshelf) Animals as Guides for the Soul…

Little Miss “Look at My Newish Glow In the Dark Toy, Which I Love Even Though Mom NEVER Puts a Treat In It” will nose the ball over for Mom to throw and close this little afternoon rest session!

Another great, restful (for 10 minutes) afternoon.

Thanks to Life With DogsConfessions of the Plume and Two Little Cavaliers for hosting the Saturday Blog Hop.

Follow Up Friday – Buddy Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea.  Beginning last week, she teamed up with Miss Linda, from 2 Brown Dawgs (Miss Linda who saved JJ’s life!) and turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  Congrats!

Saturday: Buddy Sitting

JJ, Puffy, Mom and I continued Buddy, the Beagle, sitting.  We learned that Beagles have way different characteristics than retrievers.  We learned that Buddy could give the Energizer Bunny a run for the money as the little Dude never stopped moving.  Mom had trouble taking photos to show you how adorable he is.  Can you believe the guy actually waited for 10-15 minutes before eating his kibble?  Mom gave him lots of lovies during this time and eventually coaxed (VBP) him into eating.  JJ and I scarf our food in 1 minute!  Mom also mentioned how EASY Buddy walked, very little pulling… hint hint… What?

Sunday: Buddy Vision

During a 4 minute oxygen replenishment rest, Mom snapped a photo of the Budmeister to show you!

Mischief Monday: Buddy’s (Mis) Adventure

OMD, did the Bud-Man cause mischief!  Mom walked into his kitchen and found this!  If you think that was a good dose of mischief, wait until this Monday!  Looked like Buddy thought he was a beaver instead of a beagle!

Tasty Tuesday:  We Love Broccoli

We couldn’t wait to share two broccoli recipes with you; one with raw broccoli and the other roasted!  Because Mom offered the glorious crucifer two ways, JJ and I received double the tidbits!  Many readers shared: that their K9s had never tried the green goodness, they themselves either loved or disliked the tree looking veg or they couldn’t wait to make either or both recipes! Do let us know if you try them.

Wordless Wednesday: Evo the Great

We all agree – Evo is exceptionally gorgeous, striking and regal!  Thank you for sharing your insights on this giant breed.  Mr. Matt will so appreciate your compliments on his special girl.

Thankful Thursday: Backlogged

Blogpals, you did it again; you understood, empathized (VBP) and supported how backlogged we have gotten.  Mom and I are beginning our efforts to catch up on the generous awards we have received.  This week, we acknowledged receipt of The Addictive Blog Award from Zena at The Princess Tails.  We love sharing our story and equally love passing awards on to other wonderful blogs.

 Another great Buddy/broccoli/Evo/Addictive Blog week!

P.S. Mr. Ron was super sick this last week, so, no resolution to week 4 of Mom’s Outlook problems… (poor lady may end up bald from pulling hair out!) Also, if you want to read a great post about the Meandering Mollie party, you MUST, MUST, MUST click here!

Thankful Thursday – Digging Out – Part 1

Hey It’s Jet Here.

We admit it, we fell so behind in showing gratitude and passing on several awards over the last few months, we’re… well… ok… officially… EMBARRASSED.  So many blog pals have kindly bestowed awards and we… (actually Mom, I was ready to dictate as always, could not keep up).  We’re attempting to begin rectifying (VBP – vocab building project) that TODAY!  If we go out of order of receiving, this just means Mom found that particular kind post at that moment. (forgive her, she tries so hard!)

Ok… we begin with our newish friend, Zena, from The Princess Tails, who bestowed, The Addictive Blog Award on our blog recently.  We thank her Royalness profusely (VBP) as any Gentleman would.  We enjoy reading Zena’s posts because this girl knows how to live the Princess life!  Also, as previously mentioned, Mom loves names that begin with “Z”!

The Rules:

  1. Thank the benefactor: Check
  2. Link back to said benefactor: Check
  3. Talk about why I blog and why I started blogging:
  4. Post Award: Check
  5. Share with 10 other blogs

Mom and I began blogging almost a year ago because we both felt sad and lonely after the loss of my golden sister, Koko, may she be frolicking OTRB.   Mom was known for sharing funny stories and tidbits about Koko when they did their pet therapy at the Childrens Hospital and she continued when I joined the family.  People told Mom that my stories made them laugh and she should share them.

Mom figured at worst, she and I would lift our spirits each morning and at best, maybe someone else would lighten their day by reading our posts.  We thought maybe a friend or two, a family member here and there, and/or a work connection would glimpse a post.  Well, with some mentoring from Miss Jennifer we have been welcomed with open arms and paws by the pet blogging community.  We laugh, we cry, we share, we connect, we learn, we educate, we dialogue, we party with the deepest gratitude.

Share:

Another great Addictive Blog Award day!

We just joined the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop hosted by Pepi Smart Dog (formerly by Cokie the Cat!).
