Wordless Wednesday – Mom’s Cleveland Fur Connection

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Again, we wish our furriends affected by Sandy the safest conditions under the circumstances, please let us know how we can help as soon as you can.

Also, Happy Halloween!

On Monday, I shared that Mom spent last weekend in Cleveland and that by day 4, she was completely fur deprived.  Well, lucky for her, the camp reunion goodbye brunch was hosted generously by Miss Shari and Allie.  Allie is a gorgeous Golden Doodle.  My buddy, Sam, also a doodle, never looked like Allie, so, Mom asked Miss Shari and found out that Allie went to the Spa and got “blown out!”

Nice to meet you…

Miss Shari showing Mom how Allie gives kisses…

Allie listened to directions and was the first to take her spot on the couch to participate in Camp songs and last stories

Another great fur friend day.

Tasty Tuesday: Little Red and Yellow Orbs of Goodness

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Before we begin, we want to send out our heartfelt hope that all our friends affected by Hurricane/Frankenstorm, Superstorm Sandy are safe.  Mom hails from NJ, so, she has a good sense of where the storm came ashore yesterday.  When you can, let us know what you need and how we can help in the aftermath.

Thanks to Sugar and Kol for initiating Tasty Tuesdays, today is our thirtieth participating post!

Many regular readers know that as Mom’s faithful Kitchen K-9s, we sit in rapt (VBP – Vocab Building Project) attention when Mom prepares salads.  Grape tomatoes, the red kind or the yellow pear varieties, usually conclude the preparation process because they leave Mom’s cutting board a bit sloppy.  We may also favor them because Mom usually tosses one or two to JJ and I whole so the orbs represent our largest tidbits!

Before JJ arrived, Mom grew several varieties of tomatoes including: cherry, grape and Everglades in our backyard garden during the winter, as do many South Florida residents.  When harvest time approaches, a roster of yummy tomato laden dishes helps show off the hard work.  Here’s Mom’s version of the classic Italian Panzanella Bread salad which flew off her table during her Farmers Market demonstration.

Lori’s Panzanella Bread Salad (Adapted from Regina Cowles and Simply Recipes)

  • 1 tb. Italian Herbs
  • ¼ c. Olive oil (best quality you can afford!)
  • 4 c. slightly dried out rustic bread, cubed or torn in small pieces
  • 1 ½ ripe grape or cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
  • ¼ c. red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 ½ c. arugula leaves, torn
  • 1 bunch basil, torn in small pieces
  • 2 tbs. red wine vinegar
  • Salt to taste

Mix Italian Spices into the olive oil, set aside.  Place bread in large salad bowl.  Add tomatoes, onion, cucumber, basil and arugula and toss gently.  Add the vinegar and toss again to blend.  Spoon the olive oil mixture over the salad, add the salt, toss again.  Set aside for 30 minutes at room temperature to allow the bread to absorb the dressing and the flavors. Toss once again before serving.

Mom’s Ideas:

  •  Add some fresh mozzarella or feta,
  • Throw in a few garbanzos or leftover roasted chicken, turkey or tuna
  • Switch spinach or other lettuce varieties for the arugula.

Another yummy grape tomato day!

Mischief Monday: Hide and Seek

Hey It’s Jet Here.

For the last few days, Puffy, JJ and I played Hide and Seek with Mom.  We looked high and low for Mom, taking rests in between.

We checked out her usual spots…

The kitchen…

The garage…

The family room…

The office including mancave #1…

The bedroom…

The bathroom…

No MOM!

And then we had a Pow-Wow where I, Detective Jetty, reminded them about this clue…

Uh oh… MOM left us!  Ok, in fairness, we had a super time with our special friend, Miss Angela. And… it was Mom’s first vacation day from work in 17 months!  When she returned last night and gave us tons of lovies while explaining that she went to this place called Cleveland for her summer camp reunion (after 35 years)… we forgave her for making us look so long to find her!

Another great Cleveland Camp Truda reunion day!

Our Eighth Black & White Sunday: Golden Pumpkins!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

We met a new blogpal on the Saturday Pet Blogger’s Hop last Saturday.  Miss Megan shared a great post with Pumpkin stencils and a yummy recipe.  Since my heritages were not represented, Mom downloaded JJ’s!

Another great golden pumpkin day.

Follow Up Friday: Jetters Edition

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Before we recap, we MUST share with you how much all your comments, thoughts of support, words of care and lovies meant to Miss Wendy on the loss of her sweet Barkley this week.  (noted in Tuesday’s post.)  In case you didn’t see her response, which we posted late that evening, scroll down to the end of the comments.  We knew our blogpals would rally to her side; thank you for taking Miss Wendy and her family under your paws.

Our friend, Miss Jodi, Heart Like a Dog, initiated this great idea to update readers on previous posts.  She created a lovely badge to go with her idea and recently turned her wonderful idea into a new blog hop!  Congrats!

Saturday: Honoring Adopt-a-Shelter Month

We began our week by highlighting two super adoption events in our area.  We thought both events creatively selected themes with corresponding posters.  The first, which begins at midnight tonight is a Super Adoption beginning with kittens and puppies.  The second paired hunky firefighters with rescue K9s strutting the runway.  We appreciated your support, understanding and dismay that I, Gentleman Jetty, was not asked to appear on either poster.

Sunday: Black & White Little Cat

When Mom unexpectedly helped Mr. Andy out on Saturday afternoon with Austin, she finally caught Little Cat in daylight licking his/her chops.  Mom’s befriended LC and now, when she visits, LC will brush up against her and permit petting.  You asked us to find out LC’s real name… Mr. Andy said, “kitty”, however, when he says it, with affection, it sounds like “koodie!”  (Another mystery solved!)

Mischief Monday:  A Fox?

Turns out that many of you have foxes in your area, too!  We subsequently learned, that, while cute, foxes can cause quite a bit of mischief and beyond.  Our friend, Miss Heather found out from Health Services that the urine can be toxic to children! (I know, you’re wondering why a human child would be in that situation… however, if the foxes are in your backyard… you do the math…)  Humans also have foxes as pets, who knew?  As you suggested, we will continue to admire from afar.  Oh, we have a few entries on possible names for our new fox: Foxy and Felicia… keep those ideas coming!

Tasty Tuesday: We Honestly Love Radishes!

We featured one of my personal fave veggies this week – radishes.  Many of you commented that:

  1. You didn’t know K9s could eat radishes.
  2. Many humans did not know how many varieties of the yummy radish exist.
  3. Many of the humans either enthusiastically enjoyed radishes or kind of wrinkled their noses.
  4. 3. A few K9s admitted to hiding said veggie under various furniture species with other offered veggies!

Wordless Wednesday: JETTERS

Boy oh Boy did we spook and scare you (and ourselves!) with Mollie’s wickedly talented Frankenweenie picture of yours truly!  For many of you who worried that I would remain in that scary form, Gentleman Jetty is back, gorgeous fluffy black fur and all!

Thankful Thursday: Triple Thanks

We appreciated your compliments on our award and our apology to Princess Zena.

Another great wrap up to the week!

Thankful Thursday: Triple Catch Up

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Mom and I proudly continue to catch up on our thank you posts… this is week 3!

First, we have an apology/thank you combo.

Zena, from The Princess Tails, bestowed the Super Sweet Blog Award to us.  When we thanked Misaki last Thursday, we should have thanked “Her Royal Princess” as well.  We humbly kneel at your paws with guilt… (like this K9!)

Princess Zena also bestowed the Wonderful Team Member Award on our blog.  We properly thank “Her Royal Princess” and I bow to your paws in gratitude.  Mom and I both appreciate the fireworks in 2D, because as you know, I cower (VBP – Vocab Builder Project) during the 3D versions!

The Rules:

1.  The Nominee of the Wonderful Team member Readership Award shall display the logo on his/her post/page and/or sidebar. (Mom will do this by next Mischief Monday!)

2.  The Nominee shall nominate 14 readers they appreciate over a period of 7 days (1 week) – this can be done at any rate during the week. It can be ALL on one day or a few on one day and a few on another day, etc. (BELOW)

*Miss Wendy: She does not have a blog, however, she reads and comments meaningfully EVERY DAY!  We wish to acknowledge and thank her for every single entry! Plus she gives the BEST lovies in person and in her comments.

3.  The Nominee shall name his or her Wonderful Team Member Readership Award nominees on a post or on posts during the 7 day (1 week) period.  Happening RIGHT NOW!

4.  The Nominee shall make these rules, or amended rules keeping to the spirit of the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award, known to each reader s/he nominates.  Happening RIGHT NOW!

5.  The Nominee must finish this sentence and post:”A Great reader is…”

  •  In this case, one who shares with their animal companion.
  • One who reads with an open heart and an open mind.
  • One who appreciates the efforts and acknowledges the talent, creativity, dedication and heart of the writer over time.
  • One who provides positive and/or constructive feedback to the writer over time.

Tasty Tuesday: Yes, We Eat Radishes

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Before we begin today’s post, we have sad news to share.  For those of you who regularly read our comments, you will note an almost daily visit from our loving friend, Miss Wendy.  We featured her treasured Barkely for our first Black and White Sunday post.   as well as a post on a few of our Cyber Pals.   Sadly, Barkley crossed OTRB yesterday and Miss Wendy and her family have aching hearts.  If you feel comfortable, please send them your support through us, as Miss Wendy doesn’t have a blog.  We know they will find your kindness meaningful.

Thanks to Sugar and Kol for initiating Tasty Tuesdays, today is our twenty-ninth participating post!

When Mom works at our Farmers Market, she often finds that humans scoff (VBP –Vocab Building Project) at the gorgeous family of radishes.  Mom loves to grow watermelon radishes, however, we also eat the traditional magenta orbs, the Easter Egg Collection, Daikon radishes, French radishes and such.   Radishes are fat burners, crunchy, and have a slightly bitter taste which can round out many dishes.

Today, we offer a pre-holiday cleansing salad from a fellow IIN alum, Alex Jamieson.

Refreshing and Cleansing Radish Salad

  • 2 cups peeled and thinly sliced daikon radishes
  • 1 cup thinly sliced green apple, sliced into half-moons
  • 1/3 cup grated carrot
  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion, sliced into half-moons
  • 1 red radish, grated
  • 1/4 cup freshly-squeezed orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons brown rice syrup or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 10 leaves fresh mint and cilantro (optional)

1. Combine daikon, apple, carrot, onion, and red radish in a large mixing bowl.

2. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the orange juice, rice syrup, lime juice, and salt.

3. Pour the liquid over the vegetables and toss well to combine. Garnish with mint and cilantro, if desired, and serve.

Another crunchy, radish day.

Mischief Monday: We Thought We Saw A Poody Cat!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Last Tuesday night, Mom took JJ out for last potty around 11:30 p.m.  I, meteorologist extraordinaire, deduced a disturbance somewhere in the county which prohibited my attendance with the ladies.  Usually, JJ quickly does her last potty somewhere on the front lawn, the ladies 180 it back into the garage and that’s that.

Instead, JJ did her Little Miss Watch Me Point, Set, and Contemplate Retrieving like a textbook Irish Setter who has trained for years.  Startled and curious, Mom pointed and set herself right beside JJ to see what caught her attention.  Standing beneath Mr. Gil’s flood light directly across the street, in linear silhouette was a… feline?

Fox in author Dave Barry’s home. (about 10 min. from us!)

Except… Mom whispered to JJ that felines do not have pointy noses and bushy tails.  Huh? Mom’s lived at Casa Jet for 20 years and never saw a critter like, like what? A fox?  We live in suburbia!   Mom asked JJ if we have foxes in the Tropics.  JJ, too focused on said “fox”, neglected to answer.  They stood still for a good 5-10 minutes, until the fox must have smelled them, because it ran/scampered across the street to Miss Denise’s backyard.  As it scampered, Mom tried to get a better visual thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her.  The creature made interesting, non-feline sounds along the way.

The next day, Mom asked Miss Mary at work if we have foxes here.  She wasn’t sure. Mom asked Miss Mary Ann, Miss Beverly and finally on Wednesday evening, my Madrina (Godmother in Spanish), said yes we do.  She had a family of foxes at the house she just moved from.  Mom then hit the internet.

Apparently, Florida hosts primarily two varieties: the red fox and the grey fox.

Mom thinks the one they saw resembled the grey fox photo; except more petite… a kit perhaps?

Since Miss Mary Ann always names creatures creatively, we’re going to request a name for our new neighbor tomorrow.

Another great, foxy mischief day.

Our 7th Black & White Sunday: LC Caught – Finally!

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Mom unexpectedly visited Austin yesterday afternoon.  Whenever Mom helps Mr. Andy with Austin, she also takes care of the outside feline, Little Cat. (For the life of her, Mom cannot remember LC’s real name!)  Yesterday, she finally caught LC in a photo!  (notice LC’s tongue!)

Another great, finally captured Little Cat, day!

Thanks to My Life in Blog Years and Dachshund Nola for hosting the Black and White Sunday blog hop.
