Wordless Wednesday: Vixen Goes to Publix

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Mom spent almost two hours at the grocery store on Monday purchasing groceries for her two University of Miami classes yesterday and today.  (explains why she is slow to respond to your comments and slow to read your blog posts to me…she planned for 15 yesterday and 120 today.)  She told us that people in the produce aisles looked at her oddly because she looped the department for about 40 minutes, dividing her cart in half with baby carrot bags as the items almost overflowed the cart!

As she approached her car, the SUV next door had the back flap open and a Publix employee stood looking in.  Curious as ever, she thought she saw a K9.  Considering the temperature was about 93 with 100 % humidity, she peeked as she passed.  Here’s who peeked back.

The husband had the air on, thank goodness, even so, the K9 panted.  Mom shouted into the SUV and asked if she could pet the K9, girl or boy, how old and what the name was.  Yes, girl, 10 and Vixen.  Vixen? Like Rudolph the Reindeer’s Vixen Mom asked?  Yes. (the human didn’t want to talk much)  Mom thought Vixen looked like a Scooby Doo double with her expression, minus the coloring.  Mom told the Publix employee how surprising Vixen’s silky coat was.

By this time, Mom and her groceries felt like the Wicked Witch at the End of The Wizard of Oz… before she fully melted, she thanked the human, bid Vixen adieu, loaded her 20 or so bags and hit the AC button!

Another great, Great Dane, day.

  1. Wow..she’s a gor-geous very big dawg…Humom won’t take me out in the car if it’s hots… In the winter, I dont’s mind sitting in there while she gets my shoppin 🙂
    Happy Wednesday Jet
Hugs Mollie x pee=ess come see me on telly 🙂

    • Hey Mollie, Hey Alfie, Jet here.

Mom doesn’t take us out either, unless it’s to Dr. Shaffer. In the winter, JJ and I LOVE the car with the windows open, breeze in our fur! 🙂

    • Hey Litchi, Jet here. Hi Miss Susan.

Mom asked me to share that she likes grocery shopping as long as she has the time and biscuit $! She likes hardware stores too! Now if you drag her into a clothes store or a clothes/shoe department, her eyes glaze over and she gets all confused!

  2. Hi Jet thanks for stopping by Enlightened Ferret. What a beautiful dog. At least the hooman had the air on and was with her. I don’t take my boys out in the vehicle when it is really hot. Which puts a dent in their traveling which they love to do.

    • Hey it’s Jet here.

Nice to make your acquaintance too!

While the AC was on… we were a bit confused as to why the trunk flap was up letting in the heat…

Mom feels the same way as your human. In the winter, when the tropics rock, we put all the windows down, put on our seat belts and go!

  3. Hey Jet! It’s Oz.

What a lovely doggie Vixen is. So glad Mom got to give her a few pets & cuddles.

What I don’t understand is why the back of the car was open for the dog to hang out of (when it was sweltering yesterday…like today!!!) while the human had the AC on?!? What is wrong with people…dogs enjoy (and need) the AC as much as the next guy. If they are going to have the dog in the car, have the AC on high and all the windows and doors shut! Good grief.

    Your pal,
    Oz

    • Hey Oz, Jet here.

Dude, from one FL guy to another, totally agree and can’t understand… they obviously have not seen the badge about temperature and dogs on the right side of our blog!

    • Hey Fred, Hey Gloria, Jet here. Hi Miss Janet.

Boy have we missed you guys!

Yes, she is indeed, if I do say so myself! Oh Miss Janet… melting is what we do for half the year here in the tropics! It’s the price we pay for fabulous winters!

  4. never great to have a dog out in extreme hot weather especially one that is white…I suspect they sunburn just like cats who are white or have a lot of white on them??…you are such a great doggie biped Miss Lori!! paw pats, Savannah

    • Hey Savannah, Jetty here.

Yes, you are so smart to raise the sunburn issue, Savvy. Mom asked me to share some chin scratches as a thank you for your kind compliment. 🙂

BTW, did our reblog help? We sure hope so… 🙂

      • wont’ know about the reblog…but the fact that you are in Florida has to be better than us in CA…I think ASPCA person will tell Mom how many get adopted…will let you know…just the thought counts in our book! hugs, Savvy

  5. Hi Jetty – LOVE me some Great Danes! there are 2 that come to Petsmart all the time – they are so magical! Lucky doggy who got some of your Moms lovies! Well, the a/c motor that we had installed yesterday did not help the A/C – it’s 84 downstairs! so tomorrow they are putting in a new unit – it is alot of biscuit $$$, thank goodness my inlaws are helping out until our tax refund comes in and we;ll pay them back!

I hope you all had a nice day and kept cool!

sending sweaty and clammy goodnight hugs and kisses to you, JJ, Mom, Rachel and Pluffy xoxoxoxox

    • Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Wendy.

OH NO! Miss Wendy, naughty ac unit! The only good thing is… well according to Mom, who had to replace both ac units over the last 2 years (big OUCH)… is that they are more efficient. We can keep the thermostat 2 degrees higher than before and feel the same way. 🙂

What kind inlaws… please give them lots of Jetty kisses and JJ hugs for us.

Sending much cooler and more efficient Jetty kisses and JJ hugs to you, Mr. David, Jacob, Cassie, Rex and Barkley xoxoxoxo

    • Hey Guys, Jet here. Hi Mr. Colby.

Mom does too… except for the time one sat right on her foot which hurt a bit! Really? Wow, we would enjoy learning what services Danes can help with… so fascinating. 🙂

      • Yeah, I’m not really sure what service Danes help with. We were volunteering at our guide dog booth today and saw a Great Dane standing next to an Irish Wolfhound! Those are 2 giant pups!

      • Hey guys, Jet here. Hi Mr. Colby.

Wowee, wow, wow! I’ve played next to a wolf hound once and he could have been on a basketball team compared to me!

  6. Vixen sure is a big girl! I’m like Mom, I would have popped my head in and wanted to pet her. I probably would have even opened a bag of carrots and offered one up. 🙂
