Wordless Wednesday – Swimming and Skunking

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Wordless won’t exactly work today…

While Mom and Rachel slid the shutters open at dusk last night, we knew that the Gulf faced the onslaught of Isaac.  Miss Beverly’s daughter and husband evacuated their New Orlean’s home after preparaing 3 houses (family) for Isaac.  Grandma Caz’s, niece-in-law and 120 lb K9 hopefully left their New Orleans houseboat (nephew was out of town).  Sending Jetty kisses, JJ hugs and positive energy from the bipeds to all those affected.

On Monday evening, we met Miss Beverly and Neve outside their garage as we began our evening constitutional.  Miss Beverly invited us into the backyard, since she had just returned from work and wasn’t up to a walk.  Mom had “geared us up” with our raincoats (remember, red for me, purple for JJ and duck yellow for Mom?).  Mom figured she would leave them on, since we exited our garage with modest rain and who knew what Isaac band would arrive next.

Well, Miss Beverly’s yard was a veritable (vocab building project VBP) wonderland.  Her arica palm privacy hedge, which lines the full back of the yard stood in belly deep standing water (picture is an example, not Miss Beverly’s).  Oh the joy of splashing, sniffing, pawing!  Since Mom did not want to venture there (the standing water extended about 6 feet before the palms, I ran the fence line and often disappeared into the palms so that all you could see was my tail imitating a palm frond!

Of course, I had to quench (VBP) my thirst in the best water dish of all, every now and then, raincoat and all!  (Mom did remove it eventually.) Miss Beverly caught me drinking and swimming!

Mom hosed JJ and I down before leaving Miss Beverly’s wonderland.  As we entered Casa Jet, Rachel announced, “what smells like a skunk?”  Uh oh, ol’ Jetty boy got busted… remember the dead possum situation?  I might have investigated that general area… A LOT!  So, at 9:00 p.m., Mom and I had an unplanned spa night.  Hmpf… I thought I smelled interesting!  (Jetty, you smelled RANK (VBP).  I was not going to sleep beside a skunk, I needed my green tea rosemary Jetty boy back!)

Another great wonderland day.

    • Hey Fred, Hey Gloria, Jet here. Hi Miss Janet.

Oh it was glorious I tell you, divine. No sorry needed on my side, I thought I smelled interesting, only Mom and Rach disagreed!

Thank you for your kind thoughts about our connections in the Gulf, we’re crossing paws and fingers, too.

    • Hey Pru (do you prefer Pru or Prudence???), Jet here.

      Oh, it was like a K9 in a K9 bakery I tell you… Divine, blissful… I could go on.

Yes, thank heavens we are well, only a shredded tarp on our leaky roof… thanks for your thoughtfulness.

    • Hey Bunny, Jet here.

Mom hosed that puppy down at Miss Beverly’s house and hung it up to dry in the garage… hmmm… good question… excuse me a moment… MMMOOOMMMM, Bunny wants to know if my raincoats smells like skunk too? Good ? Bunny, I will have to check this afternoon… MOM

  2. Uh oh… skunks… bad news they’re bad news Jet! Yesterday when Boomer and I were out for a walk we smelled one, in broad daylight, not a good thing, so we hightailed it out of there.

    • Hey Boomer, Hey Dottie, Jet here. Hi Miss Emily.

Mom said she smelled lots of skunks in NJ when she was growing up… all the adults talked about was bathing in tomato juice… that does not sound so bad to me!!! I like tomatoes…

  3. BOL Jet! I can’t believe your mom de-stinkified you!! What fun is that?!?

We got lots of rain here too from Isaac before he turned into a hurricane. The kids were rafting and boogie boarding in the street and Ma wouldn’t let me out to play with (chase) them. 😦

    Your pal,
    Oz

    • Hey Oz, Jet here.

      NO fun at all dude.

Wow, that’s right, you are a fellow Floridian… did your home flood or just the street? Can’t believe Ma wouldn’t let you play too. 😦 hmpf… guess she had her reasons…

  4. Uh oh – Smelling like a Skunk?! Yuk!! I guess sometimes a bath really is the only option!!

    Wags to all

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  5. Hey Jets, Jack here. Bet you smelled amazing. The water in the back yard went down and left all kinds of interesting things in the yard. They smell amazing too. Mom is keeping a close eye on me so I haven’t been able to get to them yet. If I hear “Jack leave it” one more time……..
Don’t tell Mom but I bet you anything I will get a drop and roll soon. I have tried to talk Ginger into distracting Mom so I can get to the stuff, but so far the Princess isn’t cooperating. I don’t have much time because I heard Mom say that she is going out to clean the yard after business hours today. Maybe there will be a lingering scent to roll in?

    • Hey Jack, Hey Ginger, Jet here. Hi Miss Rebecca.

Sorry, I’m writing back so late, Mom has too many distractions from important thingies like COMMENTING!

So sorry to learn on our favorite NPR station that your area had the most water. 😦

Dude, can’t wait to hear how you handled Miss Rebecca’s insistence on messing up your totally NORMAL investigative insincts. Little Miss Happy to Listen to Mom, would not cooperate either. Sorry, Dude.

Yeah, see if you can at least get in a quick drop and roll for posterity…

Mom asked me to share that she hopes your Mom had time to clean up before any K9s (not mentioning names) got into naughty business! Party pooper MOM!

  6. hey Jett,

Sounds like you had a very exciting walk! So much going on with the weather and all. Splashing around in the puddles with the rain sounds like a good time! My human loves the swimming pool, but I am not really a water dog. Now, fill it with snow and I am in! You look like you are having fun, though! I want to see you run and jump off the diving board! BOL! Glad you are all fine after the hurricane and paws crossed your friends and family who are in the path are safe.

    Suka and K

    • Hey Suka, Jet here. Hi Miss K.

Oh, the evening was nothing short of bliss! I’ve heard about that snow stuff, however, here in the tropics, have never seen it!

Can you imagine, a 1.5 summersalt into the pool! I’m still adjusting to swimming, and… come to think of it, do not know anyone with a diving board. (We did watch LOTS of diving from the Olympics!)

Thank you, yes, we are all fine and we’re crossing paws and fingers too about those in the Gulf. 🙂

    • Hey Sherlock, Jet here.

Well, I kind of sort of like spa day/night. I do NOT like when Mom wets my head, although I do not mind the shampoo. She sits on the shower floor and uses the hose, so, it’s not too bad…plus I get special treats. She says she cannot understand how I can shake so much fur out of me causing the white tile to look like zebras!!!

    • Hey Kirby, Jet here.

Yes, we feel lucky… I think we would have more fun if we could be off leash, however, no fence, no more enclosure (thanks Hurricane Wilma), no off leash!

Thanks, we hope all stay safe, too.

  7. Oh no, a skunk. Now that stinks. Poor Mom. Hope the hurricane didn’t do too much damage to you. We saw some of the pictures on the news of New Orleans and it didn’t look good. Take care.

    • Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Marg.

It was a possum to be fair and accurate, however, Mom thought more people would relate to a skunk smell!

No, we only have a shredded tarp on our leaky roof. Nothing worse…

Yes, we saw pictures of the Gulf region (everyone forgets about Mississippi, Alabama and the FL panhandle) and the water looked so high… that’s the worst…

  8. Oh boy Jetty, that could have been a Monday Mischief post! LOL How in the world did you find something that rank? Poor mom and poor you. I bet that spa day wasn’t as fun as you remember it. 🙂

    • Hey Sampson, Hey Delilah, Jet here. Hi Miss Jodi.

Good one Miss Jodi! Monday Mischief, BOL!

Well, remember my MM post about Neve and the possum??? simple as that!

Eh, I’m kind of ok about spa day, even though this one was a solo (no JJ) and it was at night!

    • Hey it’s Jet here. (We cannot tell who we should address for comments, help? I, Jet, manly man of etiquette would like to know. 🙂 )

Oh, the experience was simply divine, I tell ya!

      • Hi Jet! You can address me, McGuffy Ann…or if you prefer, there is Maggie P., the big white Maine Coon, Grizelda the big black cat or her little sister, Chloe Jo. *LOL*

      • Hey McGuffy Ann, Hey Maggie P, Hey Grizelda, Hey Chloe Jo, Jet here. (phew that’s a mouthful!)

Boy, do we have a funny Maine Coon story for you… too late at the moment… Mom will have to transcribe a post soon. Thanks for letting us know, I, Gentleman Jetty, likes to have good manners. 🙂

  9. Hi sweet Jetty – glad you are all ok with the storm – I just shrieked with joy when I saw the pic of you swimming with your coat on – you are the best! Sorry Mom made you deskunkify – sounds like you had fun getting smelly!!! one of our dogs who now lives at the Bridge, , Brett a beautiful chow/golden rescue mix was very found of gettin smelly and we did the tomoate juice trick!

sending good smelling goodnight hugs and kisses to you, JJ, Mom, Rachel xoxoxo

    • Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Wendy.

OMD… really Miss Wendy? Tomato juice? Did Brett lick it while you used it on him?

Hope you are super duper from the storm, too. (crossing paws you will say yes.)

One of our new blogger friends called it my float coat, BOL. Oh, Miss Wendy, getting stinky was simply divine.

Sending green tea and rosemary Jetty kisses and JJ hugs to you, Mr. David, Jacob (how was school?), Cassie, Rex and Barkley xoxoxo

  10. Pleased the weather is letting up…but listen Jet, you are my Champion, you really have to think about the stuff you roll in! You have an image to keep up! Let JJ do that stuff…only of course she is a girl and knows better…MOL Savannah

    • Hey Savvy, Your Champion here. Hi Miss Linda.

Oh yes, all is well, thank goodness. Thinking and sending positive energy to those in the Gulf. Savvy, they have too much water… 😦

Whoops, sorry Savvy, had a momentarily lapse… forgot my proper Champion image… Yeah, JJ would prefer playing with a ball! Btw, you and Mom are in our post today. (thursday) 🙂

    • Hey Lulu, Jet here. Hi Miss Christie.

Yes, we’re so fortunate, Mom opened the shutters already so Puffy can resume his sun puddle bathing and JJ and I can watch the critters pass by! JJ, Little Miss Golden (I didn’t get the swimming memo) Retriever is panic stricken at the thought of the pool!

  11. Hi Jet – came upon your blog via Wordless Wednesday. You shouldn’t be wordless – esp’y since you are working on your VBP. You know some good words! And you’re very cute in your float coat!

    • Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Jackie.

Wowee, wow wow! Thanks for visiting… if you send us a link to your blog, we will stop by and say hi!

Mom and I are so excited you like our VBP… thanks… Mom studied a lot in the dinosaur days for something called SATs!

Can you believe Mom thought a little rain would deter me from drinking I mean swimming! BOL… She could have removed my float coat sooner… hmpf.

  12. Oh my word, Jet! All my friends are from south of New Orleans, so we’re still waiting on word from a few of them. And waiting to see whose homes made it safe.
