The Owl and the … JJ?

Hey It’s Jet Here.

Last night’s thunderstorms, which kept Casa Jet awake into the wee hours, left many grey clouds in the sky this morning. On first blush, I could not muster up the courage to take my morning constitutional. Mom and JJ tried to encourage me; however, I made a U-turn back into the garage and subsequently (vocab builder), the kitchen. Mom took “Little Miss Hop, Skip and a Jump” for an exit right, sharp right route short walk, hoping to return and convince yours truly to try emptying the tank at least.

According to Mom, she and JJ heard lots of avian discussions taking place at the house next to Neve’s. They saw three typical birds and then noticed a wider bird on the lawn. As a result of my human sister, Rachel, having her 4th birthday at the Museum of Science, which has a wildlife rescue center, she recognized the creature as a baby screech owl. Mom and JJ stood stock still, watching little Screech take three mini-flights: two landing on the grass and the third placing the owl in the hedge. Mom’s heard owls in the trees, but, never saw one on the ground. She and JJ admired the owl and then went about their walk.  (She did not have her phone, so pics are as close as she can find.)

When they returned, I felt more confident and joined them for an abridged (vocab builder) exit left route. Well, wouldn’t you know, when we crossed the big street, we began hearing an odd, loud, dominant birdcall you could tell originated in a larger species. If you’ve been reading our posts lately, you’ll know where this is heading.

Yup! About two thirds through our route, we spotted Mr. Peacock perched high up in a tree. Not wanting to wake the neighbors (at 6:45 a.m.) Mom altered our route a little. JJ and I exhibited impressive, yet silent bird instincts. Mom praised us and we trotted home before the next band of storms passed through.

Another great, avian, day.

  1. Oh Jet…we are so sorry to hear about your thunderstorms:( We know how you don’t like them! We wish we would get some of those here. Our grass is dying and it isn’t soft to roll and play in anymore! Maybe you could send some of that rain our way:)

Have a great week and check out our giveaway! You might like the book we are giving away!

    • Hey Dogs N Pawz, Jet here.

Thanks, it is quite yucky. We would LOVE to send our extra water your way. While we enjoy puddle jumping, we know so many areas in our country need our extras… How should I send it? hmmm… a puzzlement!

Oh we LOVE to read, we’ll check it out right now. :)

  2. Hey Jet! That is a very pretty peacock and how cool that you saw a baby owl up close! We don’t have many peacocks around our area in South Miami. Bummer about all this rain, we were thinking about going to the beach and inviting you guys to join us!

Hope you have a nice relaxing Sunday!

    • Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Deanna.

OMD! You are like 10 minutes from us!!! Yippee, yahoo!!! We live 5 minutes from the US1 Whole Foods!!!

Yes, Mom’s worrying right now how to get us out for afternoon empty the tank!

JJ and Mom got lucky with little Screech, maybe I’ll see it next time… :)

Wish the weather held for the beach…

    • Hey Chester, Hey Gretel, Jet here.

Oh it was, it was… (from JJ…) Mom and I stood still for a few minutes, I didn’t bark or anything… I think we, how would we say it… marveled… yes… marveled at little screech!

    • Hey Koira, Jet here.

Oh, you know it! Do you see peacocks too?

Um… Koira? Can we ask you a favor? Would you mind reading our post from yesterday, we are looking for votes to see who JJ should have a date with!!! :)

  3. Hi sweet Jetty – WOW so many storms – we were up with Miss Cassie last night around 2ish, she did settle after an hour or so – I was thinking of you and JJ and hoping you were doing ok, then again storms today!! Huge thunder and hard rain! ! I was working, but Mr. David and Jacob rearranged their plans( going to the gym together) and stayed home and helped her until the storm passed.

Today at petsmart I snuggled a puppy Mastiff (like a teddybear), saw an awesome chow chow (very scared of strangers) 2 huge great danes puppies (so beautiful!), a puppy golden girl named Zoey, a beautiful cavelier king charles spaniel named Bently and an awesome goldendoodle plus lotsa other wonderful canines! so much fun! There were also tons of cats/kittens up for adoption and I said prayers for them to find wonderful furever homes – so many different breeds of cats they are so interetsing!

I think that is so amazing that JJ and Mom saw a baby owl, I have never seen an owl in the wild but I would love to – I think they are very cool! Also can;t beleive the peacock was in the tree – I really love birds

sending storm free goodnight hugs and kiss to you, JJ, Mom, Rachel and Pluffy

    • Hey it’s Jet here. Hi Miss Wendy.

Oh gosh, Miss Wendy, too many storms for this boy! It just started again about 5 minutes ago. Luckily, Mom scooted JJ and I out for our evening constitutional in the slice of calm around 7 to 7:30. Poor Cassie, please tell her we share her fright. I think I may have mentioned that Mom had a few hours in the closet with JJ again last night.

Mom asked me to share that she envies your K9/feline time, she loves to visit and see all the different varieties and say hello… bet they all LOVED saying hi to you Miss Wendy. :) Hope your company knows how lucky they are to have you. :) We will join your prayers for finding furever families…

From JJ: Yes, Miss Wendy, the owl was so cute and special, I would have gladly placed it in my soft mouth like a good retriever and brought it to Mom for a closer look… however, while she appreciated my offer, she though watching and marveling at Little Screech’s actions would be a better idea! We’re trying to figure out if it’s the same peacock or there are more than one!!!

Sending quiet Jetty kisses and JJ hugs to you, Mr. David, Jacob, Cassie, Rex and Barkley xoxoxoxo

  4. Hey Jet,

Sorry you’re getting Thunder storms buddy – hang in there and be brave :)

It sounds like you’ve got some wonderful wildlife in your neighborhood :)

    Have fun on your walks,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

    • Hey Snoopy, Jet here.

Thanks Dude, it’s been rough lately… Mom took us into her closet again this morning around 4 a.m. She forgot her purse at home and didn’t realize until she got to work… I think she’s sleepy!

I tried to look for little Screech last night, no luck. :(

      Thanks Dude, you, too!

    • Hey brown dawgs, Jet here. Hi Miss Linda.

Considering we live in the ‘burbs, it’s true! We just returned from our evening constitutional and that darned peacock had the NERVE to stare me down in the street. HMPF! Mom asked Miss Mary Ann to name him, something with an arrogant hint to it… she came up with Winchester, like the character from MASH! Perfect!

  5. So sorry to hear about your thunderstorms. We don’t like them here at Casa de Bella either. But wow, what an interesting smattering of birds you have! I guess we should be happy not to have peacocks (given what you all are saying about them) but you gotta admit, that’s kind of cool. :)

    • Hey Bella, Jet here. Hi Miss Leslie.

Bella, you have no idea how yucky those storms are…we are having one RIGHT NOW. :( Do you have any secrets to share about getting through storms?

Yes, bird life teems here in the tropics, especially since we live near an old attraction called the Parrot Jungle, where many avians escaped over the decades and populated in the wild! Bella, trust me, they are beautiful for sure, but noisy and … if I may say… arrogant! :)

Mom thinks it’s kind of cool too!
